  1. This story is set in Verona, Italy. It was written by William Shakespeare in the year of 1595.

The main characters in this story were Romeo who was a teenage boy in the family of the Montaque. Juliet, who is in the Capulet family and she was a teenage girl. Then there are the Montaque and Capulet Families as well as the Lady Capulet.

This story is all about teenage love. It started of with Tybalt and Mercutio fighting in the city of Verona. It then continued with Mercutio getting hurt and dies by Tybalt. Romeo continues the fight and fights for Mercutio's life. Romeo then kills Tybalt and the war begins..
Romeo and Juliet fall in love when they see eachother at a party of one of their families. They decide to marry the next day, but they could not because of their family-hate. it would not be approved by any of the sides. In the end they both die as they really loved eachother so much.

The style of the story is very romantic and it is very descriptive and easy to understand. However, it was a little bit too hard understanding when they speak in their broken old english style.

I wish there was a continuation for this story as it is very interesting and it suits any ages.

I enjoyed watching both this movie and acting part of the play and scenes. They were very well played by us all and the movie just gives us great ideas.

  2. Romeo And Juliet

Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare in the 17th century. It is very famous play and two films have been made out of them, one of which is very successful with Leonardo De Caprio.

Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona, Italy and is set around the same time it was written so around the 17th century. Romeo and Juliet is set in the streets of Verona and also in the beautiful villas of the Monteques and the Capulets.

The main Characters in the story are Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is from the family of the Monteques and Juliet is from the family of the Capulets. Romeo is around 16-19 years old and Juliet is around 14 years old. They both love each other a lot.

So basically the story is about Romeo and Juliet who fall in love but the only problem is that their families are sworn enemies. Romeo because of this problem kills Tybalt which banishes him from the city of Verona. Juliet gets this potion from Friar that allows her to pretend to be dead for 42 hours. Romeo then finds her dead and kills himself but when Juliet wakes up and sees him dead she kills herself too with a knife.

The style of the story is very simple it is written and performed using Shakespearean language. And also a lot of action happens in a short amount of time which for me keeps me on the tip of my chair and makes me want to watch more.

The idea of the story is in my opinion is to show what lovers would do for one another. And that lying and betraying your family will just bring unfortunate luck upon one selves.

  3. SCASI ROMEO AND JULIET
Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespeare. It was a play written by him and it is a tragedy about two star crossed lovers . It was written in the 1500s.

It is set in Verona , Italy. The characters are Romeo , Juliet, Lady Capulet Juliet’s mother, the Nurse, Tybalt. Paris the man that wants to marry Juliet, Benvolio and Mercutio Romeos friends and the Prince Escalus the prince of Verona and Friar Laurence .

Romeo and his friends crash the Capulet’s party. Romeo falls in love with Juliet. Tybalt notices Romeo at the party but he is ordered to do nothing by Lord Capulet. The next day m Juliet send the Nurse to talk to Romeo so they could get married and Friar Laurence marries them. Then Tybalt comes looking for Romeo but Romeo doesn’t want to fight with Tybalt and tell him he loves him.

Tybalt thinks Romeo is mocking him. So then Mercutio starts to fight with Tybalt. Romeo gets in the way and Mercutio is killed when Romeo realizes this he goes after Tybalt and kills him. Lady Capulet pleads to the Prince that Romeo should be killed for the price of Tybalt’s life but the Prince asks her who is to pay for Mercutio’s life. In the end Romeo is banished. Juliet is forced to get married to Paris but Friar Laurence makes a plan that Juliet will sleep for 42 hours and then run away with Romeo. But Romeo doesn’t get the letter so when he hears the news of Juliet being dead. He runs to her tomb , there he kills himself and she wakes up and sees Romeo has killed himself so then she stabs herself and dies.

The style of the story is old, 1500s. It’s is also set in Italy and has an Italian feel to it. It is romantic , violent because there is a lot of deaths and it is a Tragedy.

The idea I found in the Play is Romeo acting before the thinks. He always does it. He killed Tybalt because of it. In two days from meeting Juliet he got married and he killed himself instead of waiting a while.

It was a very interesting play . However all the action was packed in less than a week. A lot of action happened.

  4. ‘Romeo and Juliet’ was written by William Shakespeare around 1595. We watched a film adaptation which came out in 1936. It is about a pair of star crossed lovers who, on the night they meet, decide to get married.

The story is set in a town called Verona, which is in Italy. The streets are cobble-stone streets that are quite narrow, in some places, and there are quite a few squares. There is the Capulet house, where Romeo and Juliet meet and dance together. We don’t really see any of the Montague house. There are also some parts where they are in the church where Friar Laurence is located, and which is surrounded by many plants and flowers that Friar Laurence experiments with to create medicine and such. All of these places are located in Verona.

The characters in the story consist of; Romeo, Juliet, Friar Laurence, the Nurse, Tybalt, Mercutio, Benvolio, Capulets, and Montagues. Romeo is a person who seems to act purely on impulse; he doesn’t think his actions through before he does them, and just jumps to conclusions right away. Romeo is a Montague. Then there’s Juliet, a Capulet, who Romeo falls in love with. Juliet is just about to turn 14, so she’s still 13 when all this action happens. Friar Laurence is the person that Romeo trusts and confides in, just like the Nurse is the person that Juliet confides in. Tybalt was the cousin of Juliet, nephew of Lady Capulet, who had killed Mercutio, then had been killed by Romeo. Mercutio is one of Romeo’s good friends, who is a joker/very dramatic person, who gets in a fight with Tybalt and dies. Benvolio is also one of Romeo’s close friends, and he witnessed the death of Mercutio AND Tybalt, but seems to be sort of passive. Then there are the two different houses; the Montagues and the Capulets, who seem to hate each other because of a long-held grudge.

  5. The story basically begins with Romeo being completely in love with a girl called Rosaline, who we don’t even meet as the story progresses, and is becoming a nuisance to his friends. So his friends, consisting of Mercutio and Benvolio and many others, take him to the Montague’s party wearing masks in hopes that Romeo would snap out of it. That night, Rosaline completely flies out the window as Romeo sets his eyes on Juliet, and immediately falls in love. It’s the same story with Juliet, as soon as their eyes meet they fall for each other. On that same night, they decide that they shall marry each other, even though they had just met. The next day Juliet sends her messenger, the Nurse, to speak with Romeo about the time and whereabouts they would get married. They get married under Friar Laurence, who only marries them because he foresees peace between the two houses if they do get married. However, their luck seems to go bad as, in the next day, Romeo’s friend, Mercutio, get’s killed by Tybalt. In a fit of rage, Romeo then kills Tybalt as compensation, without even thinking about that. After this, Romeo realizes what he has done, and calls himself ‘fortune’s fool’. That day, the Prince banishes Romeo from Verona, as he had killed Tybalt. The next morning Romeo leaves, but has a messenger that tells him of Juliet’s wellbeing. However, Juliet gets confronted by her father telling her to marry Paris. At first, Juliet is completely against it and refuses, but then she finds she doesn’t have much of a choice and goes along. She only does this, though, after Friar Laurence gives her a potion that makes her seem like she’s dead. This plan backfires, though, when Romeo hears of Juliet’s ‘death’ and comes racing in to Verona, completely filled with sorrow. Romeo kills himself after seeing Juliet’s dead body, with poison he’d picked up on the way, and when Juliet wakes up, she does the same. In the end, the two star crossed lovers kill themselves.
The style of the story is quite different. Shakespeare sort of creates his own language, making the characters all the more interesting as you have to keep up with what they’re saying to understand what’s happening.
The ideas/themes of the story, in my opinion, are these; Love, Grudge, and Family. Family being how the Capulets and Montagues are, and Grudge being how the two families seem to hate each other so much for a reason we do not know. Love, which is obvious, because of how when Romeo and Juliet meet they immediately fall in love and get married.

I found the story very interesting, although I found Romeo quite annoying. There was so much action that happened in the play, and it all happened quickly.

  6. Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a love tragedy written by William Shakespeare in 1582. The story is about the love between two people, Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is from the Montague family and Juliet is from the Capulet family who have been rivals and enemies for a long time, yet no one knows why. They fall in love which is a big problem.

‘Romeo and Juliet’ was set in around 1580 (when it was written) in an Italian city called Verona. It takes place in the Capulet house, on the streets of Verona, in Juliet’s tomb and Friar Lawrence’s ‘place’ where he experiments with his chemicals.

Romeo and Juliet are the main characters of the story. Romeo is a very bold man, who is around 16 years old. He doesn’t think about what he does and makes a lot of mistakes. He is also a ‘lover boy’, he falls in love A LOT. Juliet is a 14 year old girl who seems to fall in love easily, as they fall in love at first sight. Mercutio is another character. He is around the same age as Romeo. He is very much a jokester, he is always joking even until his death. He is a kinsman of the Prince and he dies by the sword of Tybalt. Tybalt is a very temperamental character, he gets angry because Mercutio is making fun of him and kills him. The Friar is a nice character; he is always trying to help Romeo. He dabbles in some sort of science, so he is able to make the potion for Juliet. He always has his plans but they sometimes backfire, like in this play. The nurse is the nurse of Juliet. She is like her nanny and is always taking care of her.

It starts when Romeo and friends go to gate crash a Capulet mask party. Romeo and Juliet catch eyes and fall in love instantly. They decide to get married the next day. After they get married; Merctuio, Bevolio (who don’t know that Romeo has been married) and Romeo are out on the street and meet Tybalt with his group of Capulets. Mercutio makes fun of Tybalt and they fight. Tybalt kills Mercutio under Romeo’s arm. Romeo gets angry and kills Tybalt and is then banished by the Prince. At this time, Juliet is meant to marry Paris, a kinsman of the Prince but is already married to Romeo. Friar Lawrence has an idea. He decides to give her a potion that makes her appear dead for 42 hours. She drinks this and instead of getting the message saying Juliet is actually alive he gets told by a friend that she is dead. He goes to see her tomb and ends up killing herself. Juliet wakes up and sees that he has done this and decides to kill herself because she is so sad.

Romeo and Juliet is a very well written Shakespearian play. Shakespeare makes the story happen very quickly, the stage action happens in around 2 days all compressed into two hours. It starts with a Shakespearean sonnet summarizing what happens in the play. It skips from Romeo’s life to Juliet’s and there is a lot of soliloquy so we can see what the characters think.

The main ideas of this play are tragedy, death and love. It is defiantly a tragedy, with Romeo and Juliet both dying in the end. It’s obviously about love considering they fall in love at first sight and die for their love.

I quite enjoyed this play, but sometimes you just want to slap Romeo for what he has done. It is quite a complicated and sad story. It’s got quite a few twists which make it complicated and have a better, less expected outcome.

  7. The story is set in Italy in Verona. It was written by William Shakespeare 1595.

The main characters in this story are Romeo who was a ‘romantic’ boy in his teens and was a Montague. Juliet, who was a Capulet and she was a 13 year old girl. Then there are Tybalt and Friar Lawrence as well as the Lady Capulet.

This story is all about love. It started off with Tybalt and Mercutio fighting in the city of Verona. It then continued with Mercutio getting hurt and dies by Tybalts sward. Romeo continues the fight and fights out of vengeance. Romeo then kills Tybalt.
Romeo and Juliet fall in love when they see each other at a party of the Capulet’s. They decide to marry the next day, but they could not because of their family-hate. it would not be approved by any of the sides. In the end they both die as they really loved each other so much.

The style of the story is romantic and it is very descriptive and easy to understand. However, it was a little bit too hard understanding when they speak in their Shakespearian style.

I think it would have been better if it was a little longer.

    I enjoyed watching the movie.

  8. Romeo an Juliet

Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespeare in 1582, the story is about two lovers Romeo and Juliet who fall in love, but they are of two different houses that wish to kill each other so their marriage is in secret. Romeo being from the Montague family and Juliet being from the Capulet family.

Romeo and Juliet is set in 1580 Verona, Italy there is also the Capulet houses where they have a ‘party’ in which Romeo, Mercutio and Benvolio decide to attend, there is also the Friars church in where we see Friar Laurence cook up some plans that end up backfiring, and finally we see the tomb in which we see Romeo and Juliet die.

Romeo is a character who is around 16 and pretty much falls in love every girl he sees but when he sees Juliet who unbeknownst to him was a Capulet and falls in love with her. Romeo has a kind nature but can be a hot head when provoked he is also a Montague. Mercutio is a jokester and a kinsman to the Prince of Verona, who pretty much jokes about everything; he also doesn’t like it when people talk badly about his friends so he becomes angry and fights them he is also around 19 – 20. Benvolio is a hot headed Montague, who follows Mercutio around as he is his best friend, Benvolio is around 17. Juliet has just turned 14 and has already fallen in love with Romeo and decides to marry him in just a day. Juliet is a Capulet who is the daughter of the head of the house, Capulet. Friar Laurence is the one person Romeo can turn to for help and often has ideas that backfire, mainly being the one at the end where Romeo dies and Juliet dies aswell. The nurse is the person that Juliet can turn to and she is also has a joking character.

It starts off with a brawl that starts off between the Capulets and the Montagues, and then the Prince arrives and tells them if there is ever another brawl, Capulet and Montague will be killed. We then find Romeo, Mercutio, Benvolio and others of the Montague house attending a Capulet party, which is Juliets 14th and that, is where Romeo meets or rather sees Juliet and falls deeply in love, without knowing that she is a Capulet. Romeo goes and sees Juliet and they say to meet the next day for a marriage, the next day Romeo and Juliet get married and we then see Mercutio and Benvolio walking about in the square, then Tybalt arrives to find Romeo but instead finds Mercutio instead, they fight and Romeo arrives to stop them but instead helps Tybalt in killing Mercutio by having him under his arm. Romeo then kills Tybalt and is banished, Juliet is then supposed to marry Count Paris and after visiting the Friar she agrees only to take a potion that Laurence makes to make her appear dead for 42 hours, Friar sends word to Romeo but alas it doesn’t arrive in time and Balthazar tells Romeo that Juliet has died. Romeo then goes and sees Juliet dead and drinks a poison that he bought before coming to see Juliet, Juliet wakes up and then kills herself to be with Romeo.

Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in a way that we hear what the characters are thinking, like they would speak their thoughts so that we could get an understanding of what they are thinking and what they are about to do this is ofcourse soliloquy. He also writes it so it happens over the period of a couple of days.

Shakespeare starts off the story by using a sonnet that pretty much sums up the entire play in 14 lines, the play is ofcourse a tragedy since almost all the characters die and by that I mean almost all the main characters die like Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt Etc…

I did not really like the story only because I find it rather boring but the play is well written and I like the use of the old English language and then the fact that almost everyone dies because of misunderstandings and failed attempts to save their lives.

  9. Romeo & Juliet
The story of Romeo and Juliet was set in Verona of Italy, in the year of 1968. The genre of the film is both love and tragic. This story had also been written by William Shakespeare.
The story was mostly set in Verona, a city where both Montagues and Capulets lived. The year when it was set was probably around the year of 1968, which was when the film had been made. In some parts, the story was also set in different locations, after Romeo had been banished. The story had been set basically in several places; The Capulet’s house, Verona, and even out of the city.
The characters in this story are Romeo, a Montague boy around 16 who is the kind of person that ‘falls in love’ with a new girl practically every week. He is not the fighting type, but more of the type that avoids brawls with the Capulets. The next main character is Juliet, who is a Capulet around Romeo’s age who also falls in love with Romeo. She also comes from a very rich family. The next character is Mercutio, Romeo’s best friend, who enjoys getting into brawls with Capulets as well as joking around a lot. He is basically the person that makes everyone have a good laugh, even the Capulets whilst in their brawl. Another character is Tybalt, one who gets into fights with people for the stupidest reasons, such as whether a man dropped a bowl of water. He is a fighting type, and does not accept anyone who disrespects him. There is the nurse, who is practically like her Nan. She is one of the only people who cares about Juliet, and often gives her advice when Juliet has a problem. She is also the joking type that likes to tell dirty jokes.

  10. The plot of the story is basically about to family’s that have been fighting for a long period of time. The story starts off with the Montagues planning to crash a party that was held by the Capulets. Everyone, including Romeo, wished to proceed with this and they did. They knew that they would not be accepted, so they used masks and any other disguise possible to enter the house where the party was being held. When they got to the party, the Montagues had been having a good time as well as the Capulets, but Romeo, saw Juliet and fell in love. When the dancing was over he followed her and had shown himself to her. They both fell in love with each other after the party. As soon as Romeo left, she had realized that he was a Montague and could not possibly be with him as they were practically enemies. Once they have met again, they wished to each other that they could marry each other, and decided that they should have faith in what was to occur. Later on, in the city, Mercutio and Tybalt meet in the town, and start a sword fight. This sword fight was led by many jokes, and were both joking while fighting. Tybalt had only been looking for Romeo, as he knew that Romeo had been at their party uninvited. When Romeo finally came, he tried his best to stop the fight between Tybalt and Mercutio, but when Romeo went in front of Mercutio, Tybalt got inside his arm and stabbed Mercutio, which led to his death. Mercutio is known for joking, so they all didn’t believe that he had been stabbed. While Tybalt escaped with the other Capulets, Mercutio took his last breath. This drove much rage and anger into Romeo, and ran after Tybalt to end him. Romeo managed to kill him, and after that, he made his escape. Romeo had been banished and hunted down to be killed. This was a tragic time for the Capulets, as Tybalt had died. Although, Romeo and Juliet didn’t want to give up on their love, so they both planned to get married secretly, with the help of Friar Lawrence. If this were to occur, Romeo had to drink a potion that would make her look dead for 42 hours. After drinking it, her family thought she was really dead, and her funeral took place. When her funeral took place, one of Romeo’s Montague friends realized it, and he ran immediately to tell Romeo of this tragic event. On the other hand, Friar Lawrence told someone to deliver a message that was meant to be to tell Romeo about the plan. The messenger didn’t get there in time. Romeo went to the tomb were Juliet was, and saw that she had been dead, although she was actually alive. Romeo, with much sadness in him, drank poison and killed himself. A little while later, Juliet woke up, seeing that Romeo had killed himself. She tried drinking poison, but no drop had been left for her to drink. She then stabbed her self, and they both died for love.
The style of the story was written in Shakespearean language. The way the story moved along, it had a lot of complications. With this, I mean that one thing lead to another; Example: Romeo kills Tybalt, gets banished, and it complicates the whole idea of Romeo and Juliet being able to get married.
The main themes of the story are tragedy and love, and since it was written in the times of Shakespeare, it seemed to be set in old times when swords were used. There was conflict between Montagues and Capulets for a reason, but it creates an odd idea as the Montagues are of a lower class, and the Capulets are of a higher/rich class.
My opinion of this story is that I thought it was quite good, both with the plot and the idea of the characters. I thought that the way the story moved along was interesting, as one thing was always going to lead to another. This meant that the story between Romeo and Juliet had a lot of complications in their path, which made the whole thing more entertaining to watch. Overall, it was pretty good and I didn’t mind watching the video.

  11. Romeo and Juliet Scasi Essay
Romeo and Juliet is written by William Shakespeare and is written around 1995. It is about Love and Tragedy.

The story is set in Verona where the Capulet’s and Montague are living next to each other and there are parties in the house of the Montague’s. There are fights in Verona streets. Later when Romeo has been banished he goes to Mantua. The story-setting also is in the city.

The characters are off course Romeo, He is a Montague and together with his friends he fights with the Capulet’s together with his friends Mercutio and Benvolio. Mercutio is always joking and he dies because of the fight with Tybalt. Romeo falls in love with Juliet who is a Capulet. Juliet is almost turning fourteen and the nurse is a nanny for Juliet and she nursed her because she had a daughter but she died so she was there when Juliet was born. Tybalt is a cousin from Juliet and he fights a lot on the streets in Verona with the Montague’s everyone loves Tybalt and when he dies because he killed Mercutio and Romeo killed him. Friar Lawrence is a brother ‘Friar’ means brother and he is always in the church he is also a bit of a fake Chemist he helps Romeo and he is a bit what the nurse is for Juliet. Paris is also a Capulet and he wants to marry Juliet but Juliet doesn’t want that, and the last one is the prince and he comes when there was a fight!

The main action in this story is that we see Juliet a Montague in the house and that the nurse is making jokes and that her mother tells that tonight Paris comes and he likes her. Juliet doesn’t really know how he is so when her father has a party in their house she sees him and they are dancing together. But then Romeo goes with his friends to the party and he was in love with Rosalyn and he doesn’t want to dance. But then he sees Juliet dancing and he follows her till she is alone and they see each other and they fall in love. Romeo asks later to the nurse who the mother is from Juliet and when she tells it is a Capulet he is shocked and later goes to her balcony in the trees where he sees her and she knows that he is a Montague. He listens to her voice and Juliet is talking about him. When they see each other they kiss and know that they want to get married. The day after the nurse met Romeo and she says that she will come and then Juliet goes to the church and is getting married with Romeo. When Romeo comes back he sees his friends with the Capulet’s and Mercutio is almost having a fight with Tybalt. He comes between Mercutio and Tybalt and Tybalt then kills Mercutio. Romeo gets angry and goes after Tybalt he kills him and runs away. Later he thinks about it and knows what he has done. The Prince comes and he banishes Romeo away from Verona. In the morning he tells Juliet that he has to leave together with his messenger. After that Juliet hears from her father wants her to marry Paris but she refuses and even the nurse is saying that she needs to marry him she runs to Friar Lawrence who has off course a idea and gives her a potion that lets her stay dead for 42 hours. The funeral comes and the messenger sees that Juliet is ‘dead’ and goes to Romeo. When Romeo hears it he is shocked and goes to her with his horse in that time Friar Lawrence sended a messenger on a donkey what their plans are and that she is dead for 42 hours. But everything goes wrong if Romeo sees her he has his own potion that he picked up on his way and he kills himself. Juliet wakes up and is very upset when she sees Romeo and she wants a bit of potion but if there isn’t anything left she puts a dagger in her heart and dies. Not a good ending.

  12. The themes in the story are off course love and family. Love that is where it is all about Romeo and Juliet see each other and fall in love and they are getting married. Family is because you see how the family from Juliet is against each other and it is about two families the Capulet’s and Montague’s.
The style in this story is that it is an old story so they talked in their old broken language of English which sometimes is hard to understand. And it is descriptive because it is not hard to understand what happens and when something goes wrong.
I know the story but I never actually saw the movie so it was nice to watch it although it was a bit over the top that they loved each other soooo much, a bit less was maybe better haha. But further it was nice to see.

  14. Romeo and Juliet Scasi

Romeo and Juliet is a play written by Shakespeare in the 17th century. Since it was written two movies have been made. Both of the movies set in different time periods.
Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona which is a village in Italy. It was set at about the same time it was written. The movie of Romeo and Juliet is set in the streets of Verona, and also in the Big Villa’s of both the Capulet’s, and the Montague’s.
The main characters of this story is Romeo, he is a young boy about 18 or 19, who falls in love easily. He is from the Montague family and is against the caplets. Then there is Juliet who is a young girl about 14 or 15 and the only daughter of the famous Capulet. She has never been in love, but when she sets eyes on Romeo, she falls in love automatically.
So the story is basically about the two families. The montages and the Capulet’s. These two families have been in a massive fight for a long time. Then at one of the parties of the Capulet’s, Romeo and his friends go along and spot Juliet. Immediately, once Romeo sets eyes on her he falls in love with her. The only problem is that she is a Capulet and he is a Montague. They secretly get married the day after they set eyes on each other, but the families and friends get in the way, and Tybalt who is Juliet’s cousin, ends up getting killed by Romeo, because he killed Romeo’s friend Mercucio. The rage on both sides of the families gets larger, and is almost out of control, when Juliet is told that she has to marry a young man, who has earned her father’s approval. Juliet is really upset that she has to, and finds a way out of it, by taking a drug that makes her sleep and wake up later. She takes it, and is put in the Capulet’s burial house. Romeo gets to hear of the news that she has died, which is the wrong news, but he goes over to the place, and finds her dead. Depression takes over and he kills himself by her side. She then wakes up later and finds him dead, so she uses his dagger and kills herself. After this event, the families stop feuding.
The style of the story is very simple. IT is written and performed in Shakespearean language and dialect. A lot of the action happens in a short amount of time, which keeps the audience wanting to watch and to find out what is going to happen next. The main action is when Romeo kills himself and Juliet also. But then there are separate fights that also add to the story and the build up.
The main idea in this story is love. It shows how love takes over. Two young people kill themselves for love. The whole story is set around love. It also includes fights in it, but that is because of trust and betrayal which is another idea in this story.

  15. SCASI – Romeo & Juliet

Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare’s biggest love/tragedy play of all time. The play was written by Shakespeare between the years 1591-1595.

The entire story takes place in Verona, a small town in Italy. Most of the story is set in scenes in the streets, and city centers but there are some scenes inside the Capulet’s and Montague’s house. The story is set in the 1500’s.

The main characters of this story and obviously Romeo and Juliet. Other minor characters are Friar Laurence, Tybalt, The Nun and Mercutio. Romeo is a very loved up boy who is always in love and is quite peaceful, but he has an angry streak in him. Juliet is a young 14 year old girl who’s never been in love before and is arranged to marry Paris. Friar Laurence is the main friar of the town; he seems to be the best in almost anything like medicine and such and he always seems to have these ‘great’ plans which always fail in the end he also is the one that married Romeo and Juliet. Tybalt is Juliet’s cousin who’s always up for a fight especially against the Montague’s. The Nun is Juliet’s confident who she tells everything too, she helped Juliet through the marriage and is the only Capulet that knew about it. Mercutio isn’t a Capulet or Montague but he hung around the Montague’s, he is a very funny character, who always turns everything into a joke, the life of the party you might say.

The first action in the play is the first brawl that takes place at the beginning of the story. After the Capulet’s have a party so Juliet can meet Paris, but she meet’s Romeo instead and they instantly fall in love and arrange to get married, and they do. Then there is a huge brawl between the families where Tybalt is looking for Romeo because he crashed the party the day before, Romeo refuses to fight but Mercutio agrees and fights with Tybalt and Mercutio ends up being killed. Romeo then looks for Tybalt and they have a huge fight and Romeo ends up killing Tybalt without realizing the consequences. Romeo is then banned from Verona, and the friar thinks of a plan so Juliet can be with him, so he gives her a potion that makes her appear dead for 48 hours. She drinks it and gets put in the Capulet tomb. The friar sends a letter to Romeo but he never gets it and he actually thinks Juliet is dead. He gets to the tomb and drinks poison, Juliet then wakes up and see’s him and stabs herself and the two families then become friends.

The style of this story is set in the 16th century. The langauge of the entire movie is obviously shakespearian language, and some of the lines actually rhyme. Throughout the play the charecters have many differnet monolouges so we know exactly what is going through their mind. The language is also very discriptive.

The main idea’s of this movie/story are love and death. It was also very quick and sudden, they had just met 2 days before and in that time they got married and killed themselves for one another. Violence and hatred where also ideas in this story.

  16. SCASI – Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous of the tragedies of all time. Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespeare in the 1500’s. It is one of the most famous love stories of all time. The story of Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona in Italy. It is a story of two very angry families who fail, but eventually manage to make peace. This is because of the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.

There are only a few main characters in the story. Some are Capulets and some are Montagues. Romeo and Mercutio are the main characters of the Montagues, but there is also Friar Laurence who has a main role in the story. The Capulets consist of Juliet, Romeo’s lover, Tybalt, her cousin and her nurse. There is also a I could say, neutral character in the story, and he would be Prince Escalus, the prince of Verona. Romeo is a very bold yet loving man who is about 16 years old. He has a very strong love for a Capulet, Juliet. He does not know she is a Capulet, yet he falls in love. Juliet is a 14 year old girl who falls in love with a complete stranger. She loves him very much and trusts her beloved nurse to deliver messages and be her guide. Mercutio is a jokester. He is a Montague and always plays and fools around till death. He is very confident in himself and has a great role in the story. He is Romeo’s best friend yet he stands up for him too much. He stands up to him till the extent that he dies. He gets killed by the Capulet, Tybalt. Tybalt is a very strong yet confident and bold. He is the cousin of Juliet. He is so confident and relaxed that he, by mistake kills Romeo’s friend, Mercutio. He is later killed by Romeo. Tybalt also gets very upset easily and wants to fight over everything. Friar Laurence is a guy that’s too smart for his brains. He thinks to much. He is a nice guy because he always tries to help Romeo be with Juliet, but his ideas are too complex and one tiny error and its all over. The Nurse is a very trustworthy character and she is Juliet’s most trusted friend. She is like her nanny and she had taken care of her since the birth. She still takes care of her when she falls in love.

The story begins as Romeo and his Montague friends go to crash the Capulets mask party. Romeo and Juliet at that moment, when they are there stare into each other’s eyes and immediately fall in love. Juliet and Romeo do not realize they are from different families. They then decide to get married the next day. This is because they are madly in love with each other. After that Mercutio dies as Tybalt comes to get revenge for crashing their party. After that Romeo gets really mad and runs after Tybalt and kills him with all the “fire eyed fury he had as his conduct” (nice huh). After this Romeo is banished and Juliet is forced to marry Paris. Friar Laurence then has an idea and give Juliet a potion that makes her sleep for 42 hours. He then sends a messenger to tell Romeo about it, but he is informed earlier and rushes to Juliet. He finds her dead and drinks the potion and kills himself. Juliet then awakes and kills herself at the fact that her husband died. Their families are both sad and their hatred vanishes.

The story Romeo and Juliet is very, very well written. It is a story where all the actions happen amazingly quickly. Surprisingly the story is only 2 days long, in story time, but for us watching it, it is much less. There is a lot of change of families as first it is about Romeo’s family, then Juliet’s.

The main ideas in my opinion are tragedy, death, family and love. It is of course about love seeing how much Romeo and Juliet love each other, but it is also about death and tragedy as they die together. Family comes in as they are always quarreling and it all stops when 2 of their family members die. It is a very different play as, well, plays usually end happily, this one doesn’t, as of course it is a tragedy. I loved it and hope we watch it again soon. Thanks Sir for letting us watch it!

  17. In class we have been watching the film version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet written sometime between  1591 and 1595. It tells the story of a forbidden love between two young people who turn their families hate into love by self sacrifice. The sad tale is set in Verona in I assume Italy.
The main characters of this story would obviously Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is the sixteen year old  son of Montague. He is handsome, intelligent and quite a sensitive character. One of his flaws however would be that he is quite impulsive and acts quite without thinking on more than one occasion. Juliet is Romeo’s love interest and later in the play his wife. Juliet is the fourteen year old daughter of Capulet. At the beginning of the play Juliet is quite naïve and innocent however as the play progresses  however once she falls in love with Romeo she begins to mature quite quickly. Juliet trusts Romeo quite a bit and is very faithful and even blocks her faithful nurse out of her life as soon as she shows signs of betraying Romeo. The Nurse is quite a character, she was the woman who breast fed Juliet as a baby and she has quite a sense of humor, however she is not as idealistic as Juliet is and the thought of giving everything up for a man is incomprehensible to her. Tybalt is Juliet’s cousin. Tybalt has quite an aggressive character and is ready for any fight and is actually quite a vain character. Mercutio is related to the Prince and a friend of Romeo. Mercutio is basically the class clown and like to joke around and he jokes around right up to his death. Benvolio is a guy who always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time but seems from context to be a guy who likes to cause trouble.
The story opens with a fight between the Capulets and the Montagues. The Prince declares that if anymore fights occur then whoever is involved in the fight will be punished severely. The play then changes scene to the Montague houses where Romeo is moping around and tells Benvolio that he is in love with a young woman who wont have him . To cheer him up Benvolio and Mercutio take Romeo to a Capulet party. At the party Romeo meets the young Capulet, Juliet. It is love at first sight. That night Romeo climbs up to Juliet’s balcony after hearing her confess her love for him. They decide to marry the next day and Juliet will send a messenger for Romeo. The next day Romeo hears from Juliet’s nurse who tells him the time and location of the wedding. That day the two married in secret with the help of Friar Laurence who hoped that the marriage would stop the feuding between the two families. That day Tybalt came looking for Romeo for revenge after he realized Romeo had been at the party. Romeo however refuses to fight Tybalt and so Mercutio fights instead. When Romeo tries to part the two Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo’s arm. After Tybalt has fled and Mercutio died Romeo runs after Tybalt for revenge. Tybalt is killed in the battle. For killing a Capulet, the Prince banishes Romeo. Juliet’s father then informs her she is to marry a young suitor Paris the following Thursday. When the Nurse starts to betray Juliet and tells her to forget about Romeo, Juliet turns to Friar Laurence who gives her a herbal potion to make her appear dead so that afterwards she is able to run to be with Romeo. Friar Laurence then sends a messenger to tell Romeo of the plan, but the message of Juliet’s death reaches Romeo before the messenger and in despair he races back to Verona. On his journey to Verona Romeo picks up a small vile of poison. When he arrives to Verona and see’s Juliet dead he drinks the poison and kills himself. Just then Juliet wakes up cries over the loss of her dear Romeo before plunging his dagger into her heart. After that there was no more fighting in Verona between the Capulet’s and the Montague’s.
The play is written in Shakespearean Language in the form of a play. The main themes of the story would be forbidden love and true love. Overall I enjoyed the play.

  18. Romeo and Juliet- Valentina Spiteri

“Romeo and Juliet” is a play written by William Shakespeare.  William Shakespeare is one of the greatest British play writes. “Romeo and Juliet” is thought to be written in 1591-1595, however there is no exact date. William Shakespeare is the writer of many famous plays, “Hamlet” and “Macbeth” he has wrote many great poems such as “The Rape of Lucerne”.  Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy about a story about two young “star- cross’d lovers”.

The story is mainly set in Verona, Italy. Verona is located in the north-east of Italy. The town is a gothic town. The play is probably set in Renaissance era. However “Romeo and Juliet” has no stage direct which allows the story to be set in any time. There are three main places where the story plays out, in the streets of Verona, the Capulet household and the Montague household, there are some scenes which are set in Friar Lawrence’s house. The last scene is set in the Capulet’s crypt.

The main to characters are Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet. Romeo is a naïve, impulsive sixteen year old, who constantly falls in love. Juliet is an innocent, eager fourteen year old. Romeo and Juliet get married in act two scene six. The Nurse takes care of Juliet; she is a very open-minded person and has a dirty mind. Her main role is to protect Juliet. The friar is a friend of Romeo’s; Romeo always turns to him for help. The friar is one of the biggest sources of problems for Romeo and Juliet. His plans always seem to go array. Mercutio is the joker of the Montague clan, even though he is not truly a Montague he spends a lot of time with Romeo. Lady Capulet is the mother of Juliet; she isn’t a main character however she knows that she is not close with her daughter. Lady Montague is also not a main character however in one of the first scene she seems to be concerned about Romeo. The heads of the family Montague and Capulet seem to have installed their children the wrong views and only the idea that killing is the best thing to do even more so when the person is their enemy. Tybalt is Capulet and a bit of a trouble maker. The Prince is the only form of control that there is in Verona. Benvolio is Romeo’s cousin and a very conscience person. Paris is the person Juliet is engaged to marry.

  19. Part 2:

The story opens with a prologue and goes straight into a fight between Capulet and Montague clans. This fight gives you the impression that there have been many more fights before this one. There is a scene with Romeo and Benvoilo. That night there is a party at the Capulet household and Romeo spots Juliet and is completely besotted; Juliet spots Romeo and is instantly in love. Later that evening Romeo is wandering about the Capulet grounds and talks to himself about Juliet. Juliet also starts to talk about Romeo. The see each other and they talk about love and how much they admire each other. The next day they are married and Romeo finds himself in the middle of a fight after Mercutio is murdered by Tybalt. He runs after Tybalt and kills him. He is then exiled from Verona and goes to visits Juliet for one last time. The next day Romeo leaves and Friar Lawrence comes up with a plan to virtually make Juliet seem dead for forty eight hours. This plan would get Juliet out of marrying Paris and would allow her to be with Romeo once again. However the plan goes array and the message which explained all this to Romeo had not arrived to him and so he heard from someone else that Juliet was dead. He goes to visit her crypt but on the way he buys poison. He sees Juliet’s dead body and decides to kill himself. Juliet wakes up a few minutes later and sees her dead husband and runs a sword in her heart. Then the crypt keeper finds them both dead. The families are told off by the prince. The play ends and so does their feud.
The play is written in old English. There is a lot of foreshadowing used throughout the story. There is no stage direction in the original “Romeo and Juliet” however this means that the reader can interrupt anyway he/she likes.

Themes in “Romeo and Juliet”, young love as Romeo and Juliet were both young when they fell in love. Family feuds is another one which plays a substantial role in the story. Without this theme in the story, the characters would be less complex and more understanding to Romeo and Juliet's love.

“Romeo and Juliet” is a very complex and touching story. The story addresses many elements which people go through in their life however it has been exaggerated. Shakespeare is one of the most well known play writes in the world so when you read the story there is a certain amount of respect. “Romeo and Juliet” is one of my favourite play and it never gets old.

  20. Romeo & Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare. In 1968 the movie was filmed and was directed by Franco Zeffirelli. The movie gained great popularity, and is still known well today. It is a tragic romance film. There are two popular versions of themovie of the "Romeo and Juliet", and this one is one of them which is many people's favourite and I think that it is more classical version which is equal to the time when Shakespeare wrote the play.

The play is set up in Verona, Italy. The setting is in Verona streets during warm time such as summer or spring perhaps. There is also Juliet's room and balcony which shows that the family is rich. There are also other places and all are looking like old Italy.

The main characters are Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is a very passionate, and too emotional character who changes many girls marries he irl the next day he meets her and is doin irrational and inadequate actions. He comes from the house of Montagues, and falls in love with Juliet. Juliet is very dreamy person, she is not being realistic because she falls in love with her enemy when she has a potential fiance who is rich and famous. There are also teir parents,Capulets and Montagues who after their children's deaths become friendly. There is also Tybalt who is Juliet's cousin, and he ia brave cool guy sort of. Mercutio is Romeo's best friend and he is a fool to me, he is joking all the time which is abormal for an adequate person, he might be a sad character because it is strane that both families hang out witheachother and he hangs out with Montagues, not his family.Humous is a way of going through a sad event. There is also Fiar Lawrence who is having brillian idea which don't work. Benvolio is a peace guy who does not want to fight.

There are two families, they have same status, and they hate eachother. Their children Romeo and Juliet fall in love with eachother, secretely get married, then Juliet pretends to be dead and because Roemo does nt know this he commits suicide. Then Julie wakes up and kills herself. During the play Mercutio and Tybalt also die. In general many die nd there is a lot fo hatred going on continuously.

The style of the literature is a play, it has no stage directions and it is written in old english lanuage.

The main ideas of the play are hatred, death, murders, suicide, love, passion, ideas, and regretful feeling. All of the listed before are shown very vividly throughout the play.

In whole I enjoyed this play, I have come across it before but now I have a full understandng of what it is about.

  21. ROMEO AND JULIET SCASI - part 1

"Romeo and Juliet" is a play written by William Shakespeare in the years 1591-1595. It is one of Shakespeare’s famous romantic tragedies and is known worldwide. There have been two movies based on the play. One directed by Baz Luhrmann and the other one directed by Franco Zeffirelli. Its main plot is of two young lovers torn by their families’ rage, even offering their lives for their love.

The play is set in Verona city in Italy. The year is around the age it was made, the 1500’s. Verona is beautiful, walled city with quaint streets and the landscape surrounding it is full of lush rural nature. The season seems to be around springtime.

The main characters are Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, the two star-crossed lovers, trying to withstand their families’ feud for their love. Other main characters include Romeo’s best friends Mercutio and Benvolio. Mercutio is a comical character but as well very emotional. Benvolio is Romeo’s loyal friend always standing up for Romeo as well being tired of the families’ feuding. Some other important characters are Friar Lawrence, a good-natured man but not so clever, and Juliet’s nurse, who has, as Mercutio, a humorous but caring personality.

The action of the play starts out with a ‘bloody brawl’ against the capulets and montagues. The play then progresses with the Capulets costume party, the location where Romeo and Juliet first set eyes on each other. Romeo was just getting over his love for a girl named Rosaline, but quickly moves on as he sees his soul mate, Juliet at the costume party, which Romeo and his friends crash. Their love grows and the following day they get married by Friar Lawrence who thinks their love could set things right between the two families, but he didn’t think things through. Straight after the secret weeding there is a, first playful, but then vigorous fight between Romeo, Mercutio and Tybalt. Mercutio killed by Tybalt, who was later on killed by an angered Romeo. Romeo flees to Friar Lawrence who informs Romeo that he is banished from Verona. As Romeo is gone, Juliet gets to know that she is to be engaged with Paris, which is a terrible sin since she is already married to Romeo. She seeks Friar Lawrence for help. Friar Lawrence then gives Juliet a potion that will make her breathing stop for 48 hours, so that her family will think she’s dead, after she would run away with Romeo and live happily ever after. This doesn’t work out as Romeo doesn’t get the plan on time and thinks that Juliet is actually dead. He goes to her tomb and finds her there not breathing. So he kills himself by drinking poison and dies by her side. Juliet awakes right after he dies and realizing what just happened, she kills herself with a dagger. As the families run down, they find their two beloved family members and go into deep depression. They finally apologize, putting an end to the ancient grudge.
    (continuing)

  22. PART 2

The language style is written in William shakespeares own exquisite language. It has plenty of metaphors, imagery and tons of similes in it, having a poetic clang to it. The shakespearian language is a real joy to speak with. All the lines have a lot of drama put into them. For example Mercutio has a great deal of jokes in his lines as he is an extremely humorous character. Romeo and Juliet have a large load of romance and love in their lines.

The main themes of Romeo and Juliet are tragedy and love. Other common themes are revenge, fate, secrecy and lust. Romeo and Juliet is a clear tragedy because the plays end up with many deaths including the main characters suicides. But romance is as well a large component of this play as the two lovers express passion and longing, showing exactly how young love is like. All the excitement, dreams, and thoughts of one another is so romantic and Shakespeare really makes it clear in his writing how passionate it is.

As a conclusion of the play, Romeo and Juliet is one of the most well-know plays in the world as there is a reason for that. It is such a smartly written play, people rave about the clever rendition of the whole performance. The characters all have unique role, and the plot is a killer to our hearts. No one could ever produce a better interpretation of this famous Shakespearian play.

  23. Romeo and Juliet Was Written By William Shakespeare in around 1590-1600. It's a written play, that's a tragedy about two lovers.

Romeo and Juliet Is Set In Verona, Italy. The look of the whole place was very distinctive, and in the older/ more original film, the two families seem rich by their grand houses.

The four main characters are Romeo, Juliet, Tybolt & Mercutio, even though there are more semi-main characters including Lady Capulet, Fryer Laurence, Lord Capulet & The Nurse.
    • Romeo is the main character and he is a very romantic guy, who is very foolish and doesn’t seem to be in the real-world, especially when he asks somebody to marry him, an hour or two after they met. He is also a Montague.
    • Juliet is a pretty girl, who was a Capulet. She fell in love with Romeo, and they became husband and wife.
    • Tybolt was an uncle of Juliet, and he was keen to fight anybody, even though Romeo killed him. He was a Capulet.
    • Mercutio was Romeo’s best friend; he was a very funny man and seemed to be on drugs, with his mood swings and the way he acts. He was a Montague.

Mercutio and Tybolt had a fight on the streets and Romeo got in the way, ending up in Mercutio dying. In rage, Romeo chases after Tybolt since he killed his best friend, and killed Tybolt. Romeo and all his Montague friends decided they would go to a party that the Capulet’s were hosting. They thought it would be funny, to try and crash it. Romeo is noticed when he takes off his mask and Lord Capulet was asked if they could fight Romeo, but Lord Capulet said no, and told them to keep the peace at his venue. That night Romeo and Juliet met each other, and fell in love with each other there and then. Romeo asked Juliet to marry her and she said yes. The next day, there was a plan for Romeo and Juliet to escape the town so that they could live in peace together, but when Juliet puts herself to sleep for 12 hours, to pretend to be dead, Romeo see’s her and thinks she’s dead. He then kills herself. When Juliet awakens, she see’s Romeo dead, and kills herself.

The Style of the story proves that it was written in the late sixteenth century as it was written with not much fantastic things like special effects or good fights. This was probably because they had to act these on stage at that time, and they didn’t have these special effects. Also the language they spoke in was Shakespearean and this was another indicator that it was written in the late sixteenth centaury. It is defiantly a romantic play, but it also had a lot of violence in it, making it also a tragedy.

The ideas of the story are love, ancient grudge, generations & family. Love, because of Romeo and Juliet falling in love (Obviously.) Ancient Grudge/ Generations, because nobody actually knows why the two families hate each other, they just know that something happened, and that they are enemies. Family because of the way the two families are completely against each other and there division was the fact that they were two different families.

I rather liked the story, and thought it was rather interesting. However I didn’t really like Romeo’s character. He gave me this feeling that I want to slap him and tell him to get into the real world.

  24. ROMEO AND JULIET

Our class was watching a movie called Romeo and Juliet. This movie was based on the William Shakespeare’s play which was written in 1591-1595 and movie was made in 1951. This story is about two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, who were from different families which were enemies for long-long time. However, Romeo and Juliet managed to fall in love with each other. This story is full of love and romantic as well as tragedy and grief.

The story is set mainly in the streets of Verona in Italy. In the town where we can find a description of the streets, Capulets beautiful house where two lovers first met each other and also the church where Romeo and Juliet married. Also Capulet family tomb, where all their dead relatives are lying.

There are many characters in the story. However, you can notice that many of them are divided on Montagues and Capulets. First I will describe main characters. Romeo was a son of the Montague; Romeo is a cute, romantic, hot-tempered, faithful lover who would do anything to be with Juliet , Also the person who is often foreshadowing things. Mercutio, His tongue was as sharp as his sword, talkative. He was passionate and poetic. Benvolio is Montague nephew, Romeos cousin also he is very good friend to him. Juliet was a daughter of Capulet and Lady Capulet. She was naïve, shy and she has no freedom because of her family. Juliet falls in love with Romeo with son of her greater family enemy. Tybalt, he was Juliet’s cousin and nephew of Lady Capulet. He is aggressive, violent, and quick to draw his sword when he feels his pride has been injured. Also there is the nurse(Capulet) who has cared for Juliet her entire life. She has a very good sense of humor, sometimes she can say inappropriate joke or remark. The Friar Lawrence or the priest, he is a friend to Romeo and Juliet also he is always has a plan however they are not always work out. He is good at making poisons. Paris the person who was promised to marry Juliet. Prince was in charge of that city and tried to stop all those fights between Capulets and Montagues.

  25. The story begins from Montaques crushing Capulets party and at the same time Romeo and Juliet falling in love with each other on the dance. On the party Romeo and Juliet promised to get married on the next day in the church where Friar Lawrence worked as a priest. Day after Nurse met Romeo and told him exacts time when he should be at the church and at the same day they married. Mercutio and Benvolio were walking together on the Verona’s streets and just talking. After they meet Tybalt who wanted to make revenge to Montaques for crushing their party. Benvolio tries to stop them as he knowd that fighting on Veronas streets are forbidden. Then Romeo appears and Tybalt goes for fight with him however it was right after the wedding and Romeo was in love with the whole world. Romeo told to Tybalt that he don’t have any reasons to hate him but love him now. Tybalt thought that he was making fun of him and start saing bad things about Montaques. Mercutio could not stand it and got in to the fight in which he died. Mercutio died with the smile on his face and was making jokes till his last breath. Romeo saw how his best friend died right in his arms and he run to Tybalt and start new fight with him forgetting about Juliet. This time Romeo won the fight but was banished from Verona. However, Romeo and Juliet could not live without each other and Juliet ask for help her Nurse but she do not help much. So then Juliet went to the priest and he gave her the poison which would make her look dead for 42 hours. On the next day Capulets found Juliet dead in her bed. However priests letter did not come to Romeo and he heard the news about Juliets death and run back to Verona with poison in his hands. Then he came into the Capulets tomb where he found Juliet, she was cold and didn’t breath at all. Romeo said goodbye to her and drunk all poison. Right after his death Juliet woke up and found her dead lover right next to her. Then she took the knif and killed herself too. On the next morning we can see that Montaques and Capulets stopped their fight between two families because of death of their children.

This is the tragedy. We can see that there is Shakespearean language which is old and sometimes it is hard to understand the meaning of what they are saying. It is Romantic story where you can find a piece of drama irony. Also characters were using soliloquy which shows us what people are thinking. Sometimes characters were using foreshadowing which made you think if it really will happen or not. Dialogue is very good planned. Descriptions are very detailed which makes it easier to understand characters and also scenery.

I think that the main idea of the “Romeo and Juliet” is to show how dangerous can be hate between people. The fighting with someone can go for ever like it was with Capulets and Montaques. In this play I think were several themes like Drama, Tragedy, Love, Hate and Grudge between two families.

I really enjoyed this play and the movie. They are full of emotions and action and it is very interesting to see different versions of “Romeo and Juliet”. Description and acting were very good which made me enjoy the movie even more.

  26. Romeo and Juliet

“Romeo and Juliet“ was written by William Shakespeare in 1595. It is a tragedy about the secret love between Romeo and Juliet. Their families were enemies and so their love was very complicated. I think “Romeo & Juliet” was Shakespear’s best piece.

The setting of the story is Verona in Italy. The city Mantua is also mentioned (it’s where Romeo goes after he got banished). The time must be around 1580.

The main characters of the story are obviously Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is a handsome Montegue that falls in love very easily and he has always very strong feelings (he cries a lot). Juliet is a young lady from the Capulet house. She is only 13. The two of them fell in love when they first saw each other. Then there are Romeo’s friends. Mercutio is one of them. He is very talkative, and makes a lot of jokes, but can be also very dramatic and easily provoked. Benvolio is another friend. Not like Mercutio, he stays more in the background and doesn’t talk that much and he always wants to have peace. I think Benvolio is Romeo’s cousin. Then there is Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin. He seems very stuck up. He gets killed by Romeo, after he kills Mercutio. Then there is Friar Laurence, another friend of Romeo. And Lady Capulet, who is the Juliet’s nurse. And there is the Prince of Verona who is… the prince of Verona.

The story starts with a fight between the Capulets and the Montegues. After this, the Prince of Verona says that any more fights between those houses will mean death to them. Then, the Montegues hear about the feast of the Capulets and decide to go there so they had some fun. They were wearing masks but Romeo put his mask off some times, so that Tybalt recognized the Montegues and got mad. And Romeo spotted Juliet and immediately fell in love with her. They met, kissed and didn’t even know each others name and household. Then later they realized that they were from different households, but it didn’t keep them from loving each other. Romeo later came past her house and heard Juliet talking about him. They decide to marry. With help of Lady Capulet and Friar Laurence (the only people that also know about the secret love) they manage to marry secretly. But then there is that fight between Mercutio and Tybalt, and in the end Tybalt kills Mercutio. Full of rage, Romeo forgets about the marriage with Juleit and kills Tybalt. The Pince of Verona then banishes Romeo. Romeo cries a lot after that, meets Juliet one more time and then leaves. Juliet was very upset about her cousin’s death and about Romeo’s leaving, and then her mum even said that Juliet was gonna marry Paris. But Juliet was already married! So she asked Friar Laurence for help, who gave her a drink that would make her appear dead, and Romeo would save her afterwards. But Romeo didn’t get the message of the Friar early enough, and the first messahe he received was that Juleit was dead. So he came and saw her dead with his own eyes, and killed himself. The friar then heals Juliet, she sees Romeo dead, and stabs herself. After this tragic death of both of them, the houses finally decide to make peace.

The story is written as a drama play. It has stage directions and dialogues and monologues. It is written in Shakesperean language. It is very dramatic, with a lot of action, bad luck and strong feelings.
The story never got boring because always something dramatic was happening: one tragedy after the other.

  27. The main idea is obviously love: how amazingly strong it can be and that it is better to die, than to see your lover dead. Yes, and it is about death. A lot of people die! Mercutio, Tybalt, Romeo and Juliet are some of them. Juliet even ‘dies’ twice. Then the story is also about fights and arguments. It is about this bad relationship between those two households. And it shows how something from the past can still bring so much hatred. The story also deals a lot with bad luck, as for example Romeo didn’t get the right message first, or when he tried to keep Mercutio from fighting, Mercutio gets killed.

I liked the story. The movie was really good, I understood most of what they said even though they talked in Shakesperean language. The story never got boring because always something dramatic was happening: one tragedy after the other.

    Caroline 2.
