  1. In death of the salesman, the son Biff and his father Willy never seemed to get on. In almost every scene in the movie we saw them arguing except the one scene that flash backed to the good old days when everything was going well. They argued violently and the mother always took Willy's side, and even asked both the son's to leave the house, and this was probably one of the factor's that drove him into suicide. Both Biff and Happy were at the dad's funeral though, so we know they did love him. So yes it was an important scene in Death Of A Salesman.

In Romeo and Juliet we don't meet Romeo's family as much as Juliet's. Juliets parents seem very strict and force Juliet to marry Paris but when she refuses the dad flipped out and was really harsh on her. The child/parent relationship caused Romeo and Juliet's death because the parents would not accept the fact that Romeo and Juliet from the 2 hating families were in love, so yes it is also an important theme in this story.

  2. 1. Parent and child relationship is a very important theme in Death of a Salesman. The play/movie shows how the relationship between Willy and his sons changes throughout his life, like when they were graduating they were like a perfect family who loved each other and children respected Willy and Linda. When the children are in their 30’s they don’t have the same relationship with Willy, especially Biff because he found out that Willy had an affair. The affair broke the relationship between Willy and Biff, and it is the most important theme in the story because Willy commits suicide in order to help Biff financially, because he feels the need of it.
    2. Parent and child relationship in Romeo and Juliet is not seen vividly. We don’t know much about Romeo’s parents, but we do know a bit about Juliet’s parents. Her mother married her husband when she was about Juliet’s age, and he father treats Juliet as something to sell. Really he wants her to marry a wealthy Paris in order not to support Juliet financially anymore, and her mother is not close with her, because she agrees with her husband, and the nurse is more important than Juliet’s own mother. So their relationship is very strange I think, and not close at all.

  3. Parents/Child relationship.

In the story "The Death of a Salesman" parents play very important part. We can see that the whole family has tight relationship in the beginning. Willy is getting well with Happy and Biff. However, as time goes by there are some changes happening in the family. Firs, Biff finds out that his father is cheating on Linda his mother. After that day Biff and Willy were in a cold relationship. When boys were young they more or less respected their parents. At the end when they are about 30 years old they have their own thoughts and don’t listen to their parents advices as carefully as they listened before. This is very important theme. I think the whole story based on it. Willy worked hard for the family and died (committed suicide) for it too.

In “Romeo and Juliet” parents don’t have so big roles. In fact we don’t know much about them. All our attention goes towards Juliet and Romeo. However, we know that Juliet’s parents don’t really care about her feelings because they arranged her wedding even without asking Juliet opinion. At the past the parents could do something wrong which started the fight between Capulets and Montaques but we don’t any information about that. I don’t think that is an important theme in the “Romeo and Juliet” story.

  4. 1. In death of a salesman the parent/child relationship theme is one of the main important ones. The relationship with biff and willy is one of the main reasons why Willie is acting so peculiar and partly why he killed himself. Throughout the play there are flashbacks when Willy looks back upon the days when he was so proud of biff, his son who was going to become a football star. He loved and trusted him so dearly he didn't want to face the truth. But when Biff found out that willy was cheating on linda with another mom there came a huge fight between them, breaking up willy's utter pride and trust of his son. This expresses the many stages of arguments children have between their parents. At the very end of the play before willy kills himself and after willy's and biff's huge fight, biff cries on willy's shoulder asking him, begging him to let biff go and live his life the way biff wants, not what willy wants him to do. Willy gets so touched by this that he plans to kill himself to give all his life money to biff, the son he really loves. This is showing how important to our lives the relationship between us and parents can be.

    2. In Romeo and Juliet the theme is not an as popular theme as in the deaht of a salesman. We as well mostly get to learn more about Juliets parents during the play. Her parents do love her a lot, but when they realize when she doesn't want to do everything they command her to do, they grow so angry, not giving the time to listen to their dear daughter. This was shows in the scene where juliets father decides her to marry with paris, not even asking her first. When he gets to know that she doesn't want to, he grows so mad that he throws her on the floor, pushing his wife and the nanny away from him. Juliet's mother doesn't get that mad as her father, but instead cries, and grows so ashamed of her daughter. This proclaims how much parents love and want their best for the children, but that one time or another they do have to listen to their children's opinion and feelings so that they won't make the biggest mistake in their life; lose their little baby daughter.

  5. Parents and children.
    1. In Death of a Salesman it is actually all about the family of Willy. In the flashbacks of Willy everything went well, they loved each other and Biff and Happy got good grades. But when Willy started to change and he cheated on his wife Biff got angry and he chooses the side of his mother so their relationship went worse well Linda didn’t know what happened and she chooses the side of her husband. And because of all that Biff failed his graduation and he needs money. Willy committed suicide because he wanted to help his son even if you actually don’t like your father anymore, it is still your father and they still loved each other.

    2. In Romeo and Juliet the parents of Juliet wanted the best for her, they love her and they give her everything what she actually wants. But they are not that important for Juliet because she wants the nurse to be by her side whatever her mom wants to say to her. But if she doesn’t want to do something and they want to let her marry Paris because he is an important person and she doesn’t want to her father doesn’t care and he threatens her that she would die on the streets. Her mother tries to calm her husband down but he didn’t listen and she didn’t want to upset her husband so she went away. She didn’t go to her little girl to say that her father didn’t meant what he said. But when Juliet died they really seemed to care about her daughter and they cried.

  7. Death of a Salesman
The relationship between the parents and the children in general wasn't as important as the relationship between the father and his eldest. His eldest son Biff had always looked up to him, been the star of the show and had respect for his father. Then when he caught his father cheating he didn't respect or look up to him anymore and practically gave up his life. In my opinion that is what drove Willy mad, he saw the disappointment in Biff's eyes that night and no longer saw any good in himself. He saw his whole life as a failure. The fact he didn't take up the Alaska oppurtunity with Ben , the fact he got fired and kept cracking up and screwing up his job that caused him to get fired and most importantly , his realtionship with Biff ceased to exist that killed him the most.

    Romeo & Juliet
The relationships between the children and parents is not as important concerning Romeo , but is quite important concerning Juliet. The fact her father saw Juliet as an object to be given away at his will made Juliet hate him and 'kill' herself to be with her preferred man , and not her father. When Juliet tried to reason with her father , he grew angry and called her ungrateful. It triggers something inside of her which makes her want to rebel more.

Both stories have an important relationship between a father and their child

  8. It is a really important part of Death of a Salesman. The relationship gets ruined between Biff and Willy as Willy cheats. A large part of the story is based on relationship of parent/child.

It is not such a big theme is Romeo and Juliet. We don't see Juliet's mother or father much and they don't do much in the story. It is on of the lesser themes in the play even though her parents do come up. (Never see Romeo's)

  9. I think that the child/parent relationship in Death of a Salesman is critical. Without it then there is no rivalry between Willy and Biff, which makes up a significant part of the story. This also increases the family tension. Without the relationships between parents and children, there isn’t as much of a story.

In Romeo and Juliet, the adult child relationship is fairly important. In scenes like when Juliet resents from marrying Paris. The parent child relationship is critical. The father of Juliet acts very harshly when his daughter is being ungrateful. However, the theme of child parent relationships isn’t as vital in Romeo and Juliet as Death of a Salesman.

  10. In death of the salesman, Biff and his dad Willy never seem to get on well. In almost every scene in the movie we saw them arguing except the one scene that flash backed to when Biff and Happy were young. They argued aggressively and their always took Willy's side, and even asked both of the son's to leave the house, and this was probably one of the things that made Willy commit suicide. Both Biff and Happy were at the dad's funeral though, so we know they did love him. It was an important scene in Death Of A Salesman.

In Romeo and Juliet we don't see Romeo's family as much as we see Juliet's. Juliet’s dad is very strict and force’s Juliet to marry Paris but when she declined the dad got really angry and was going to disown her. The child/parent relationship caused Romeo and Juliet's death because the parents would not stop fight so they couldn’t be together, so yes it is also an important theme in this story.

  11. The Parent/Child relationship is definitely an important theme in Death of a Salesman, mainly because it contributes a lot of drama to it. Having Biff find out about Willy's affair with another woman, a lot of tension is built between the two, and they start drifting apart. Also, having Biff have that little bit of knowledge, it causes them to fight or argue every time they speak to each other. In doing this, it causes a little bit of tension between Biff and his mother, as she doesn't like how they fight all the time.
However, Willy did love his sons so much that he would commit suicide so that they would get the money they would have from the Life Insurance. He wanted to make sure they'd be fine.

In Romeo and Juliet, there wasn't much of a chance to actually know the parents. We rarely see Romeos parents, and only has some short snippets where we see Juliets. But from what we are able to see, we can tell that Juliets parents are very strict, but that they also really love their daughter. She becomes very upset with them because of how they wanted her to get married to Paris, an arranged marriage no less, and how she had no real choice. Also, she doesn't seem to trust them too much, and with good reason, with the information that she is married to Romeo. This is because her family is against his, but however if there was much more trust between them she would probably have told her mother. Although the parent/child relationship doesn't hold a HUGE role, it does play its part, as most of the problems are caused by how, being their parent's children, they are born to hate the other family as well (Montague and Capulet).

  12. Romeo and Juliet

In Romeo and Juliet both of them are not close to their parents. Romeo is not that close to anyone except his cousin and even their relationship together is not close. However Juliet is close to the Nurse but is not close to her mother or father. The nurse can be seen as Juliet’s mother because she knows all about Juliet. In Romeo and Juliet the relationship between parent and child was very important because if Romeo and Juliet were close to their parents and actually understood why they hated each other then maybe Juliet would not have married Romeo because she would know how much she was hurting the mother and father. The both would not be in the situation of death.

    Death of a sales man

In death of a sales man the parent child relationship is also important because if Willy and Linda( his wife) actually paid a bit of attention to happy then he would not have turned out to be a guy that sleeps around with women to satisfy his attention. If Linda understood how much Biff loved her and If she was close enough to Biff that he could be open with her than she would understand why he decided to stay at home instead of going to summer camp.

  13. In the death of a salesman there is a strong parent and child relationship as there is conflict and love between Willy, Biff, Happy and Linda. Linda and Happy work along fine, but when Willy starts to shout at Linda, Willy gets annoyed and starts to fight at his dad. This is probably what starts his paranoia. Both Biff and Happy argued but Happy wanted to make Willy and Biff stop, whilst Biff wanted to make Willy stop. It was also about the fact that Willy had a very strange past. At the end of the story Willy drove himself to a dead end and it ended up with suicide. Everyone in the family was at the funeral and so it is an important factor of the story.

In Romeo and Juliet the parent and child relationship is extremely strong. We see a lot of both families, but mostly Juliet’s. This means that we know more about their family than Romeo’s. Juliet and her family are very tied, so tied in fact that they argue all the time. They also fight a lot about marriage as it seems to be an important factor in the family. They desperately need Juliet to marry Paris and she doesn’t want to, so her dad scolds her and hits her. This is not a very good relationship though. Her mother is a very nice woman, but she needs to protect her child a bit better. The family of Romeo is nice too, but lets Romeo do a little more what he wants. Romeo’s parents, we do know that they care for him, as do Juliet’s’ parents to Juliet. We don’t see much of Romeo’s family, but at the end we know that they are sad as at the funeral they are all crying, as are Juliet’s.

Therefore there is a huge bond between the family’s in both stories, just they are a little different.

  14. In Death of a Salesman, it is an important theme but is it abused, because Willy does not respect his sons, after they move away from home, and he is disappointed in them because, they both turned out not very successful and Willy disrespects them for that. The boys and their mother, have a good relationship because she see's straight and she loves her sons, but Willy gets angry at her, when she tries to talk to them while he is, and he also hits her at some point. So the parent/child relationship is very important in Death of a Salesman.
In Romeo and Juliet the parent/ child relationship is also very important, because both Romeo and Juliet are close to their parents, and their parents love them alot. Juliet seems to be closer to her parents, because they arrange a marriage for her and also know where she is at what time, Romeo tends to be more distant from his parents, because he likes being alone alot to think about things. When the children die, both their parents are upset, and they cry alot, and i think after the death, the families become closer.

  15. In The Death of a Salesman the parent/ child relationship is rather important, as Willy and Biff didn’t really get on too well at all, and they would be arguing in almost every scene throughout the film. When they argued, or even physically fighting their mother thought she had to take Willy’s side even if she thought they he was wrong, I think this is because Willy has beaten the mother resulting in her being scared of him. Even though Biff and Happy left the house because of Willy, they still came to the funeral of Willy.

In Romeo and Juliet, parent/ child relationships aren’t as important compared to The Death of a Salesman but are still slightly important. We don’t seem to meet the parents of Romeo, but there is a small scene where we meet Juliet’s parents, and they seem to be very controlling and this made Juliet decide to fake killing herself to get away from them to live happily with Romeo, but her plan went wrong.

  16. In The Death of a Salesman, the parent/child relationship is very important, and the whole story revolves around the theme. Willy used to get on great with his two sons, Biff and Happy, but after a reunion, Willy and Biff are constantly fighting. Linda, the mother gets on well with the two boys, but will always take Willy's side of the argument when opposed to them.

In Romeo and Juliet, the parent/child relationship is not as important as in The Death of a Salesman, but it is still fairly important. Both Montague and Capulet love their respective children Romeo and Juliet, and both are shocked when they are found dead. Capulet seems to get mad at Juliet over her not wanting to marry Paris, and so he seems to be an aggressive person at times. The parents seem to get over the feud after the death of their children.

  17. In "The Death of a Salesman" the parent child relationship is very different to what we see in "Romeo and Juliet".

In "The Death of a Salesman" we see a lack of of communication and a lot of disrespectful attitudes to the children mostly from Willie. The relationship is not a healthy one and it is very controlling. The children don't show much affection to their parents and they seem to constantly be fighting for their attention.

In "Romeo and Juliet" because it was written in a different their is more respect to the parents and to the child. However the parents seem to control everything that their children do. The children don't have very close relationship. They are closer to their helpers.

There is a very big contrast between "Romeo and Juliet" and "Death of a Salesman" but in many ways they are similar.

  18. In 'The Death of a Salesman':
The parent/child relationship is a very important theme in 'The Death of a Salesman' because Willy, the main character is always arguing and fighting with his son Biff after Biff comes to visit Willy and Linda, and they used to get on very well and Biff and Happy both used to look up to his father greatly when they were younger. Also, Willy's wife, Linda is always on his side and tells Biff and Happy to be nicer to their father.

    In 'Romeo and Juliet':
The parent/child relationship is an important theme in 'Romeo and Juliet', but it is not greatly important, and it is far from being the main theme in the story. Juliet has quite a bad relationship with her parents, because they like to plan out her life for her, and even choose who she is going to marry, and she does not like it. I do not remember any relationship Romeo has with his mother or father in this story, but I do not think he had any.

  19. In "the death of a salesman" the parent/child relationship is one of the main themes. The story is a lot about the complicated relationship between Willy and his son Biff. Willy was very proud of Biff, he always believed that Biff would become a great football star and that Biff was too good for any math studying or nerds like his neighbour. But then Biff saw Willy cheating on his mum with another woman, and that destroyed all the trust Biff had in his dad. He no longer believed in his father and didn't want to be the way his dad wanted him to be. He wanted to live the way HE wanted it, and he didn't even like to become something big and famous, he just wanted to have a good life. But his dad never really believed what happened. He felt betrayed by his son, he thought his son was lazy, but then he also thought that his son will still be able to get famous. Willy always changed his mind and we never really get to know, what exactly he wanted. Willy and Biff get into a lot of arguments and they scream and shout at each other a lot. Linda normally takes Willy's side even though Willy screams at her when she tries to say something. Biff thinks that Willy treats his wife badly. But in the end of the big fight,Biff cries on Willy's shoulder and tells him that he wants to live his own life and beggs Willy to understand and let him. So yes, the relationship between parents and children was definitly a major theme in The Death of A Salesman story.

In Romeo and Juliet, the relationship is also very important but I don't think it is as important as in the death of a salesman story.
In Romeo and Juliet, the only parent/child relationship is the relationship between Juliet and her parents. Her parents don't allow Juliet to do what she wants. Her parents want her to live the way they want it, because they think it's the best for her and it's gonna make her happy. we can see that when her parents decide to get Juliet married with Paris, but when they finally ask her if she even wants to, she doesn't and they both get mad at her. Her mum cries and is disappointed in her daughter. Her dad gets really furious and pushes her around and screams at her even though she was already crying. This scene is very important for the rest of the story, because it is the reason why Juliet became so desperate and even took the advice from Friar Laurence to appear dead so she wouldn't have to marry Paris...

  20. In Death of a Salesman it is more a Parent relationship theme. As mostly the parents appear in scenes more rather than the children. Also, Willy who was the father of Billy and Happy acted more in these scenes and was more the focus of the story rather than the children.

However, In Romeo and Juliet it is more the children relationship as the children were the main focus of the story as they were the ones who fell in love with each other and not the parents. The parents were actually enemies and the children loved each other even though, the children knew about their hate for each other.

  21. In Death of a salesman parenting is a big part as it shows that Willy and Biffs relationship was changed because of some even that we know of, and this was that Willy was cheating on his wife Linda. the relationship as the story goes on we find that Biff looked up to Willy and vice versa, Biff was happy and doing well in school, so when he fails Willy blames himself for not getting him those extra credits he needed thus showing he really cared until that day. we see that Biff is angry at Willy and often takes it out on Happy or Linda when she is defending Willy.

In Romeo and Juliet parenting doesnt happen so much as they let their son and daughter die, but we find out that Juliets father wants her to marry and be happy but since she has already married Romeo she declines and this makes her father angry, Juliets mother also loves her daughter and tells her to marry so we see a kind of relationship, but with Romeos parents we see nothing about parenting as its always Benvolio who looks after him and finds out what he is up to. not his parents.

  22. Parents and Children:

    Death of a Salesman

In Death of a Salesman, parents do have a huge role in it as Willy; the father of two boys is pretty much the main character of the entire thing. Since he is the main character, his wife is mentioned a lot in the movie and his sons love them very much and do their best to support their parents in every situation. Also in the end, both Biff and Happy were at Willy’s funeral, so it meant that they did love him, despite all the fights they had. So yes, parents do have an important role in it.
    Romeo and Juliet

In Romeo and Juliet, parents are not a part of an important theme. This is really because we never really see their parents much in the film. In fact, I’m not quite sure if we even saw Romeo’s parents in the classic movie. Therefore; parents don’t have an important role, as they are only involved in some scenes at the party and after Romeo’s banishment.

  23. In Death of a Salesman Parenting does play a part in the story. Willy frequently flashes back to when his kids were younger and how he tried to get the best for them even thought it wasn't necessarily the best for them (ie getting Bernard to help Biff cheat). Another incident was when Biff caught Willy with another woman and this had a bad effect on their relationship. Parenting was one of the reasons Willy ended up committing suicide, because of the anger and to give his family the money.

In Romeo and Juliet Parenting is one of the reasons the whole story started, obviously Romeo and Juliet have their parents to thank for being born and giving them the opportunity to meet, but also their parents were the ones leading teh feud between the two houses causing such desperate measures to be taken. However in Romeo's case the parent/child relationship wasn't as prominent as it was in Juliet's case when her parents tried to get her to marry a man she didn't want to.
