  1. Meteor

This strory is written by John Windom in 1956. It is a very exciting story that is about humans and some sort of aliens. It is split into two, it has diary entries from the aliens and then a normal story from the humans side.

This story is set in contemporary Britain, it could also be indicated that it was at the time of world war 2. It is set in a large house in Britain, the house has a large garden with a shed and a large house with rooms for every specific need, the story is also set on Forta which is another planet were a story it also happening.

There are quite a few main characters because the story shifts between earth and Forta. On earth there is Mr Fountain who is the head of the house and also the father of Sally. Sally is a spoilt girl and very self centred who has a little dog called Mitty and then there is her fionce who is called Graham Toffts, Graham is quiet quite but very smart. Then on the planet Forta there is His Excellency Cottafts who is the head of Forta, who is in charge of the departure of Forta and all the people. Then there is Onn who keeps a journal which is what informs us about their trip, there is Sunss that was in charge when they arrived on earth and finally there is Iss who is put incharge after Sunss got killed.

The main action in the story is when the meteor lands in the garden and the people do not know what it is then there is when the aliens leave Forta and are on their way to earth, their landing and how they exit their globes and look around is a large scene. Also when the aliens fight the cat and all the other animals they come across on their journeys. So the story is full of action all the time, there is always a constant noise or action happening.

The style of the story is very confusing, it starts with a normal story about the humans in their house when the meteor lands, then is suddenly shifts to Onn's diary were they are planning their departure of Forta and their new lives on earth. Also halfway through the story, when the humans find animals dead the story would suddenly swap back into the aliens point of view. To them the humans are massive but to te humans the aliens can barely be seen.

There are two differnet ideas since the story is split into two (humans, and aliens) the aliens want to come and live a new life on Earth, they are happy to help out and keep the earth happy, they are all very brave and really enthuisiastic about their trip, then to the humans point of view there are not really any main ideas because they were not aware of the meteor attack. They just went along with the story but towards the end they are portrayed as being bad.
Overall i liked the story it was very enjoyable to read :D

  2. METEOR

    by: Sara Welander 9B

The author of 'Meteor' is John Wyndham (1956). This is a short story with a science-fiction genre. It is about a meteor which lands on Earth, but as you go further in the story, you dont really know if it is a meteor after all.

The setting of the story has two different settings at different times. One of them is on Earth, probaby in Britain in the year of 1956. The other setting is in the planet 'Forta'. We don't exactly know what year it is for that species as it isn't mentioned.

The story's characters differ from the different stories in this combined short story. The main characters on Earth, the humans, are Graham Toffts, Sally, and Mr. Fontain. The characters of the species from 'Forta' of 'Onns Journal' there are, of course, Onns who is writing the journal, Cottafts, and Inns.

What happens in "Meteor" is that an apparent 'meteor' shoots down on to Earth, right outside the house where Graham Toffts, Sally and Mr. Fontain are. Then it's about them finding out if it is actually a meteor. In the other part of the story it is about these species from the planet/moon, we don't really know what, which is called Forta. The power of nature was taking over the planet leaving their species a very hard time to survive it. So now their whole population of the planet has to move out of the planet and find a new one in 30 of these 'huge' globes which could hold thousands of their species. Then they come to a place where there are dangerous, murderous 'monsters' and in the end it all ends that they die. By the end of the story you will see how the 2 stories connect into one.

The author tells the story from two different perspectives. One is from Onns' point of view of his and his peoples dangerous adventure. He tells it from the 1st person. The other is told in the 3rd person and from the humans perspective of this whole situation going on. In Onns' journal it is told in a very noble, and emotive way. Onns tells it in a very official and formal language. The other story is told in pretty simple but also dramatic language.

The themes of 'Meteor' have a mix of kind of adventurous, mysterious, and horror (referring to Onns perspective of it) themes. Other themes are that the story are mainly about mankind and how destructive we can be, not kind of thinking of others, in this case, the aliens. But actually, the aliens behave the same way as us humans do. They are still very friendly and caring, but will then behave selfishly and violently when something is threatening or scaring their species.

The conclusion of the story is that the two different worlds ended up clashing into each other, but obviously, the humans being much bigger than these aliens, killed them, with no feeling of careness. They didn't stop to think and try and see what these aliens wanted and what they had come to Earth for. All in all, i really liked this story. It was quite entertaining, but also very exciting getting to know what would happen when the two worlds met each other. I usually don't like science fiction stories/books, but this one was one of the few that I really enjoyed. :D

  3. In class we were reading story called Meteor. Story was written by John Wyndham in 1956. This story about aliens which wanted to find better place to life and they chose Earth. Aliens are building spaceships and going to Earth.
There are two different places in the setting of the story. Aliens lived on Forta but we dont know exactly what it is and where it is. Then they moved to Earth where people living. We can guess that they somewhere in Britain because people are talking with British accent.
There are many characters mainly because "Meteor" discribes two stories about aliense and people. On Earth we have: Sally really bossy women wife of Graham Toffts,
mr Fontain is Sally's father, terrier Mitty which belong to Sally. Its family which found spaceship from Forta.Police: Inspector and his assistent. Aliens: Onns- peaceful lider of alliens from Forta. Also there were Sunss which was leader after Onns died and Sunss which was leader after Iss died. Spiders, dog cat, rats which were killed by allience.
"Meteor" have many events. This story split into two parts Forta and Earth. In Forta aliens want to move to more better land and continue to live there in peace. For this they made spaceship and moved to Earth. Author discribing one family on the Earth they are finding a Meteor which is we know a spaceship from forta. Sometime later weird stuff start to happens. First cat diead and from the meteor was comming sound. After aliens came out of the ship they just couldnt survive in this world it was too danger for them. Every where were huge subjects and wild animals. Eventualy aliens were dead because of the bug spray.
"Meteor" include two stories, two points of view. One from Onns's diary which tells us all about its nation and theirs plans. Another telling us about life on Earth. This two different stories are always flipping between each other. Story using easy language so everyone can understand it.
I think idea of this story is to show how some people and animal are living in bad conditions and this trying to teach us not to be harsh with them and just help in difficult situations.
I liked this story its very intresting!

    SCASI -> Metoer
Metoer is a sci-fi type story written by John Wyndham in 1956. It is about humans and alien type creatures and both their points of view when these ‘aliens’ crash land on earth.
The story is set in Britian, in the past because it seems quite posh. There are some indications that make us believe it was written at the time of world war one, and maybe relates to the war somehow. The story takes place in this massive home in central Britain and and in this garden shed in the garden. The first bit of the story is set in Forta, but only for a little while.
There are many characters in this story because it switches from the aliens to humans. The human characters are Mr.Fontain who is the father of Sally who appears to be quite spoilt. Sally is Graham Toffts fiancé who seems to be a quite person. The alien characters are Onn’s who writes in this journal about is journey and keeps us informed, he appears to be quite smart. The head of Forta; his exelencey Cottafts who is in charge of sending the people to earth. Suns is a warrior type guy who leads all the people when they arrive on earth but when he dies Iss takes charge instead.
Loads of action goes on in this story. The first bit is the departure from Forta to Earth, and how nobody knows if they’ll make it or not. The people are sprayed with a gas that will put them to sleep and then put into these globes which to the aliens seem to be gigantic and massive. When they arrive on earth the humans think it is another meteor. They go outside and see a cat dead with a small hole through its head and chin. This is the globe that pierced threw it. So these globes were very tiny to the humans. The alien’s encounter attacks from Cats and Rats and many of them die while trying to defend themselves. In the end the humans end up spraying these aliens with pesticide because they look like ants to them. So all the aliens end up dead.
The style of this story is quite confusing. There are two points of views in this story, the views of the aliens and the humans. The human’s side of the story seems to be narrated while the alien’s story is a bunch of diary entries telling us about their journey to earth and the attacks they faced.
The main idea of this story is how two different points of views can make us think completely different things. The aliens just wanted to find a new planet to live on, because was dying. The humans were just having a normal day at their house, when there was an ant invasion going on in their shed so they killed all of these ‘ants’. The human’s aren’t bad people at all and neither are the aliens. It was all a misunderstanding.
This story was very interesting, so i enjoyed reading it. It was different and entertaining. On the while i really enjoyed it.

  5. In class last week we read a short story called meteor. It was written by John Whyndam, it was written in 1956 and was a fictional story about alien-like creatures visiting earth, its written like diary entrees from the aliens and the humans (2 different entrees.)

The story started in a fictional planet called Forta where the alien-like creatures came from, they then travel to earth and they are in a shed in the back garden of somebody’s house in ‘Older England’ in the time of world war 2.

The main characters where Sally, Graham and Mr. Fontain. These where the human characters who saw the Meteor and tried to inspect it. Also there where the alien-like creatures, some other important people where Onns, Cottafts, Iss, Sunss. These where the alien-like creature characters who where leading the group of them.

The alien-like creatures where tiny, around the size of an ant or smaller. They wanted to move from their old planet (Forta) to a new planet (Earth). To make the travel they were grouped into groups of 1000 and flew on meteors, hence the name of the story. When they arrive at earth, they encounter a few problems with mice and cats, but they eventually fought them off. At the end the humans killed all these aliens.

The style of the story Is very unusual as it is written first like a story with a narrative speech, then it switches to a diary entry that tells the story, then it swaps a couple more times back and forth.

The idea of the story is that the aliens want to move to earth and live a better life there (a source of migration.)

The story was easy to read and was a ‘good story’ to me, it had something I’m more interested to.

  6. Meteor – John Wyndham Part 1
‘Meteor’ is a story written by John Wyndham in 1956. The story is sci-fi. It is set in the time it was written, in 1950s contemporary Britain. The story is actually set in two places, one part (the human part) in Britain, and the other part (the Alien half) is set on the Planet Forta. The Human part takes place over one night and one day, whereas the alien part is several days (the exact amount we do not know) on Forta and in the middle of Space.

The Story has two sets of characters; the Aliens from Forta have their own leaders and the narrator of one half of the story- Onns, His Excellency Cottafts, and the leader of the ‘Globe’ Iss. Onns is a brave patriot who is willing to risk his life for the continuation of his species, despite the fact that he and the rest of his race are several millimeters tall… The human characters are as follows; Mr. Fontain, Graham Tofts, and Sally, Graham’s Fiancé. Mr. Fontain is Sally’s father, a seemingly well educated man. Sally appears to be somewhat bossy and impatient character.

The story starts off with a meteor crashing to the ground outside of Mr. Fonatin’s house. However, they do not inspect the crash until the next day. After this segment, the story is told from a different character and a completely different place, it is told in the form of Diary Extracts form Onns’s (a tiny alien form Forta). He talks about their planet, how it is dying and that he is going to be part of a team to venture out on ‘colossal’ Globes to find a new place to revive their species. The story then switches to the Human point of view, where Sally, Graham, and Mr. Fontain who are talking to a Police inspector who has been called to come inspect the newly landed Meteor. After some debating about its origin, they decide to go have a look at the meteor which is a ‘ball’ about 2 feet in diameter. The ball starts to let out a hissing sound which makes Mr. Tofts fall backwards seemingly unconscious. Then the story goes back to Onns’s Journal where he talks about landing in the new strange world, his speculation at what will come and the journey to the planet. The next part of the story starts with a dead cat with a very strange ‘bullet’-like wound going straight through its head. A police sergeant also reports that the meteor was ‘buzzing’, like a muted circular saw, puzzled by the dead cat and the buzzing meteor, the Inspector wait for the War Office to turn up.

In this next section that we find out that the meteor is in fact a Globe sent by the people of Forta. The aliens from Forta group up and elect group leaders, preparing for what lies ahead. They then leave is their globe, only to find a dark and unforgiving landscape (a garden shed). Soon the aliens encountered a colossal monster (a cat) that kills tens of aliens with one swipe. One of the leaders, Sunss, runs heroically under the cat and shoots it with his fire-rod. The cat dies and falls, instantly crushing Sunss. The remaining aliens find refuge and send out a search party to scout out the way ahead. Whilst the search party was gone, gargantuan creatures (humans) entered the shed and lifted the Globe form the ground and took it away. Iss’s search party returned, well two of them did, the rest had been killed by a rat.

  7. Part 2

The ball is cut in half and was found not to be a weapon, but it was full of powder and rubbery ‘cells’. Suddenly Sally’s dog Mitty is heard yelping, and when they rush over to see what happens they find Mitty Dead. Before they can say anything, Sally is stung in her leg very painfully, and Graham sees some small ‘ants’ on the floor. After picking one up, we finally get a description of what the ‘Fortese’ look like, tiny pink hemispheres with two eyes a mouth, four-legs and a small ‘rod’ in one hand. Graham then spots hundreds of the small pink ‘ants’. But without investigating, Graham gets some insecticide and sprays the room, presumably killing the aliens.

The Story is written in two different forms, with two different points of view. One half of the story is told from the point of view of Humans in the third person, the other half is written in the form of a journal, like a diary, from the point of view of Onns, an alien from Forta in the first person. The Journal entries give a lot more insight and detail about what’s happening, whereas the Human parts of the story are focused on dialogue rather than description.

‘Meteor’ is a Sci-fi story, and thinks about the idea of other intelligent life out in space, and how different they may be from us. But aside from aliens, the meteor itself also refers to an event that was building up at the time the story was written, the Cold War. In fact the first thing that the inspector thinks the meteor could be is a weapon from the soviets. The idea of soviet weapons and tests was present at the time of the story and appears in the story itself. It even says that the war office was ‘disappointed’ to find no explosives or weaponry!

  9. Meteor

The story “Meteor” is written by John Wyndham. It is as sci-fi and it was written in 1956.

The short story “Meteor” switches between two different stories, which at the begin means that the story takes place at two very different places: the human world (the earth), and the planet of the aliens (Forta). But later some of the aliens come to the earth and then the stories are more connected because the main characters are at the same place.

In this story are human, but also alien characters. The human characters are Sally, Mr Fontain who is Sally’s father and Graham Toffts who is going to marry Sally. Then there are the alien characters. There is ‘His Excellency Cottafts’ who was giving a speech at the beginning of ‘Onns’s Journal’ and then there are the leader of the alien group that managed to get to the earth. First of all, Sunss was the leader, but he died and Iss took charge. Iss also died and Muin was chosen as the new leader. Then there is of course Onns who is the narrator of the extracts of Onns’s Journal.

The story starts off with a family that realizes that a meteor fell down near their house. But then the story jumps to another story which was written in a form of a diary by ‘Onn’. This was at another planet where a character named ‘His Excellency’ gives a speech and tells about leaving the planet Forta because their species could no longer live there. The aliens then leave their planet in ‘metal mountains’ which the call Globes. Onns’s group head to the planet earth. There, the humans have called a Police Inspector who then examines the meteor. The meteor turns out to be the ship of the aliens, but the humans don’t find out. The Inspector thinks that the meteor could be a device of ‘the Secret List’. Later, the aliens leave their ‘meteor’ and are confused by this new ‘world’ because they were inside a shed and they were so small that everything around them seemed to be gigantic. Then they had a lot of problem with a cat and spiders and rats, because the aliens were so small that the animals were really dangerous for them. The leaders and a lot of others died while they tried to kill these animals. Meanwhile the humans have found the cat, that the aliens have killed, and the take away the meteor because they think it is some kind of weapon. They were sure that this couldn’t be just a meteor. The aliens were shocked when their Globe has been taken away. But then they manage to get out of the shed. The humans find out that their dog is dead, but they don’t know that the aliens did it. In the end, the two species, humans and aliens, meet. But the humans think that the aliens are some insects – maybe ants – and after the aliens even ’stung’ the humans, they took insecticide and killed all of the little aliens.

The author wrote two different stories. One is written in first person by a character called Onns. The other story is written in third person. At first the story was confusing because you did not know what ‘Forta’ was and what both stories had to do with each other. And the sudden jump from one story to the other was also very irritating. But after you have understood who these other characters were, the story was easy to follow. They style is really good because it’s different to the normal writing styles. The author more and more connects the two different stories, till in the end, the aliens meet the humans. But this is also the end of the story because the humans kill the aliens.

The idea of this story is to show us, how differently you think from two different views. You can not tell who is the ‘bad guy’ in this story because the way this story is written, they both have good reasons for what they did. The humans could not know that the little insects were aliens. And the aliens did not know that these giants were intelligent people.

I enjoyed reading this story because it was written very interesting and exciting. The end of the story was very unexpected. :D

  10. Meteor

Meteor is a story written by John Wyndham in 1956. It is a very exciting story about aliens and humans. It is a short story about science fiction. It contains Science Fiction and different characters. The story is told from points of view, from the Onn’s Journey and from the point of view of the humans.

It was written in 1956 but it seems like it is being written in the late 20th century. The setting is in Britain for the human side of view and the other alien creatures are in the land of Forta and also in their globes and on Earth.

The characters in the story are in two sets, the alien characters and the humans. From the humans there is Graham Toffts who is a very quick character and Mr. Fontain who are in their late 30s and early 40s. He is curious. He is the fiancé of Sally. Also from the aliens there is Onn, one of the 1000 people who are going to inhabit a new planet, also Cottafts who is the highest ranking person of the 1000. Also there is Iss who is a very courageous and sacrificed his life to save the others.

In the story Meteor the Fortanian’s, an alien form of life are living on a dying planet and need to go to a new world. They find a place and plan to live in it and make a new world with them in it. But they must travel from their land from huge globes to this planet and try to help any inhabitants who already live there. On the other hand the humans Graham Toffts and Sally and Mr. Fontain find a meteor and try to find out what it is. They figure out that it might be a weapon, which it was not, also, they continuously get stung and so the humans kill them with bug spray.

The author writes a story in two parts. He writes the story in two sets, the alien characters and the humans. The aliens have one of their members writing about exactly what is happening at the moment, and the humans have the narrator reading the actual thing as it happens in the third person, whilst the aliens was in the first person.

My idea about this story is that the story is like a big coincidence and everybody happened to be involved in it all at the same time. It is a very interesting story because the alien side of the story is a bit of an adventure and then horror for the creatures, but the human side is just a normal day and a meteor falls and people just kill the bugs inside. There is nothing special about the day to them, its just a day where they get stung and that is all, nothing special.

This story was very fun to read and it was also very surprising. You wouldn’t have guessed that that was what was going to happen until after it did. It was a bit sad but it was still a good story to read for fun. I loved reading it and understanding it.

  11. Boo ^^ Hee hee

In class this week we have been studying Meteor by John Whyndam. It is a Science Fiction story about an alien invasion. It was written in 1956 shortly after the Second World War.
The story is set in two different parts of the Universe but ends in the same spot. The first setting is in Older England, with the sherry and the constable. The second setting is set on a far off planet called Forta. This planet is dying, and it is very old.
The Characters in this story are very different. The first set of characters are a set of human beings Mr. Fontain, His daughter Sally, her fiancé Graham Toffts. There is also sergeant Brown and his constable. Then leaving Forta there are the Fortans. There is Onns who is one of the narrators. There is also Cottafts , Iss, Sunss and all the other Fortans.
The story starts with a loud explosions sort of thing and then the humans eat dinner and go to investigate. The find this metal ball about 2' x 2' . Then it swaps to the point of the view of Onns, he speaks about his great leader's speech. They are leaving their home planet on these huge mountainous metal globes that will be sent to different planets so Forta’s culture and species can live on. Then it swaps back to the humans, where a police constable has arrived. The people go to inspect this ball when graham hears a hissing, he leans towards the ball and faints. It was gas. The people then leave. It then returns to Onns. He tells of how he awoke as they drained the gas from the ball. When the Fortans leave the globes they are in an enormous world. They then have a battle with this huge furry creature ( which turns out to be the cat). They lose their brave leader as he sacrifice himself to kill the creature. Then a troop of people are sent out to seek refuge . Two return, saying they were attacked by all sorts of large , strange creatures ( which we know as bugs and rats). The sergent had by now found the dead cat and he and the Inspector were examining it in wonder , trying to find out a weapon that could cause the type of wound that cost the cat it’s life. The metal ball is then moved to a lab to be inspected. At the end, Sally’s dog Mitty is killed by these small pink bugs that have a vicous bite , which turns out to be the Fortans and their fire rods. Graham then sprays them with a pesticide killing them all.
Meteor is written in a very complicated style. It is written in the third person for the parts about Mr Fontain and the others., and in the first person for Onns Diary . It swaps back and forth.
The main ideas behind this story I think are Extra Terrestials and Life beyond Earth. It also sort of shows the ignorance of humans and the stubbornness to not accept that there are some things they don’t know.
I liked this story. It was interesting and well written . It was a different type of story which was nice.

  12. Meteor

Meteor was written by John Wyndham in 1956. The story is a science fiction story, written from two points of view; the view of humans living normal lives, and an alien race, with an individual writing diary entries about the near future.
The setting of the story is two different places, Earth, and Forta (the alien planet). The story that is set on Earth is set in England, at around the time the story was written, and on Forta, it is set at around the same time period.
There are quite a few characters. The human characters are Graham Toffts, a reasonably young character (presumed), who is engaged to Sally. Sally is about the same age as Graham, and is engaged to Graham. She is bossy by nature, and the daughter of Mr. Fontain. Mr. Fontain is quite an old man (guessed at around 60 years old). All of these characters are described as being stereotypically English (drinking sherry, and the way that they are talking). Onns was one of the aliens, and the one who wrote the diary entries. Cottafts was the leader in command of all of the little aliens from Forta. They seem very intelligent, and want a new home planet.
The story starts with Graham, Sally, and Mr. Fontain having a dinner, and discussing, when a loud noise, and shaking ground make them believe that a ‘meteor’ had crashed in their field. They gather round the crash site, and see a spherical metallic object, about 2 feet in diameter. Meanwhile, Onns’ first diary entry is shown, showing how their home planet was dying, and they had made gigantic metal globes to travel to a new planet it, Earth. Back with the humans, the police have arrived, and they move the metallic object into a shed, and they carefully look over it, not knowing what it is. Onns’ next diary entry explains that they have gotten out of their globe, and explore the surrounding area, encountering a giant monster, who is killed by Iss, who sacrifices himself. the rest of the creatures go into hiding, and a search group is sent to find a way out. They find a way out, but out of 20, only 2 are left by the savage monsters (rats). The humans then take away the ‘meteor’ to be examined, and when cut in half, turns out to be filled with powder and dust (honeycomb patturn). A few days later, Sally’s dog is heard crying. When they rush over to it, it is dead, and many of these weird tiny creatures are around it. They ‘sting’ Graham, so he sprays them with pesticide to kill them.
The story is made up from 2 points of view: that of the humans, and that of the aliens. The human part is mostly their opinions and thoughts on this meteor, and focuses on dialogue more than the alien part, which is a diary entry, focusing more on detail of what is happening. They are written in different ways, obviously one is a diary entry, and it is in 1st person. Whereas the human point of view is in 3rd person.
The story emphisizes on life outside our own, and how we think that we are the most intelligent life forms in the universe, whereas there may be many more species in space that are smarter and more intelligent than us, giving it a sci-fi theme. Another theme it draws upon is the Cold War-the era it was written in. This is shown with the metal object being treated as a weapon, and being examined by the W.O. officer, and how they believe it may be a secret weapon from the Soviet Union.
I liked reading this story a lot, as it was interesting to read the 2 parts of the story, and how they eventually merged together. The author wrote this story well, and made the transitions from the aliens to the humans at the right points.

  14. The "Meteor" is written by John Windom in 1956. It is about a meteor that flies to our planet, and comes out not to be a meteor. It is a very interesting science fiction story.

The "Meteor" is set in two places. The first one is on our planet, probably in England, even though it doesn't say that it is England, but i guessed it is because the names of the characters are tipically English and they have a terrier dog, and terrier is an English breed dog. The second setting is on a planet named "Forta", and inside a Fortanian space travelling ship.

In "Meteor" there are two types of characters, the humans and the Fortanians. Out of the humans there are young married couple, girl's dad, his friend and a dog, and there are about a thousand fortanians, the main fortanian in the story is the one who keeps a diary we are reading.

The story is said from the point of view of two people, so for example one story goes and then it breaks and starts with another story. One story is from the people point of view, hey hear something fall, something like a meteor, then they realize it is not a meteor. Then he story breaks all of a sudden, and then it starts off as a journal of a Fortanian and he quotes the speech of their "leader" who says that it will be hard for future generations to live on "Forta", and then the story goes on and we realize that the meteor hat fell on earth is actually their space travelling ship, and they are very small. At the end Fortanians dye because people think that they are dangerous ants.

I think that it is interesting and unusual about the way the author changes from whom the story is said, first it starts with the people, then aliens, then people and then aliens again etc. Also I think that the story may have a little bit more description, because the important moments seem to pass too quickly, for instanse when people sprayed "Fortanians" with the insect killing spray, it was an important and big moment in the story, and the author didn't say much there.

The idea of the story is definately something to do with unkown stuff, because people in the story do not know who the "Fortanians" are, and the Fortanians do not know who the people and animals are. The atmosphere of the story seems cold, because it was night and space makes you think of somethting dark, so the story was written about the time of the Cold War, and so it was cold.

I enjoyed the story, it is amazing the way the author switched the stories in "Meteor", I also think it is a good story to read suitable for all ages because it is interesting and just fun to read.

  15. Meteor

Meteor is a short story written by John Wyndham. It was written in 1956. The story is a science fiction story. It is written from 2 perspectives. The aliens from Forta’s perspective and the humans perspective.

There are human characters and alien characters. Graham Toffts is a a young man who is engaged to Sally. It seems to me that Sally is around the same age as Graham. Sally is sort of bossy and likes to take lead. Mr Fortain is her father. He on the other hand seems to be a well educated old man. They all seem like a rich family as the drink sherry and speak like very formally. The Onns on the other hand are a alien species that have had to leave their planet and find another. They are very small around the size of ants. And come to earth in peace. They seem very intelligent and only want to start their lives on earth and teach the humans what they know and the other way around of course.

The story starts when a meteor shakes the room of the humans who think a meteor has landed in their field. Graham sally and Mr Fortain are during this period having dinner. They obviously go to the ‘meteor’ ( a round rock around 2 feet wide ) and straight away analyze it as a meteor. Then it jumps to the diary of the Onn’s which is basically telling us how their planet has died and that they have to leave their homes in these ‘meteors’ and try and find a new planet to live on. Again back to the humans! They take it into their shed. Then again Onn’s diary they explain how they arrived and are attacked by a ‘cat’ which Iss kills with a lazer beamer thing. The rest of the aliens go exploring and some are killed by ‘rats’. Some time later Sally’s dog is found next to it dead with the Onn’s crawling on it. The get the bug spray and kill all the aliens!

There are basically the human point of view and the aliens. The human part of the story is mainly dialogue but the Onn’s is written in a diary so it focus’s on detail. So the humans tell the story and the Onn’s explain the backround information. I think the point of this story is to try and prove a point that maybe there are aliens and maybe they are smarter or smaller and we are just to stubborn to realize that so before you go killing anything smaller then you think about the Onn’s! something that strikes me is the fact that the story is written around the time of the cold war which is probably why they think that this metal ‘meteor’ is a secret weapon and ask the W.O. to examine it.

This story was great even though it was longer than the others. It was sad that the aliens died at the end but I loved the sci-fi twist! At first it seemed boring but when the Onn’s started coming into the picture then it got interesting

  16. THE METEOR ESSAY

John Wyndham is the author of the short story Meteor, which was written in 1956. John Wyndham was famous for his science fiction writer work.

The setting are two different places, one place that is mentioned is on Earth in 1956, most probably somewhere in Britain. The other setting is in the planet 'Forta', but we do not know the year.

The characters that are mentioned on the planet Earth, are the Graham Toffts, Mr. Fontain and Sally (which are all humans). The characters that are mentioned and said from 'Forta' of the 'Onns Journal' are – Inns, Cottafts, and Ofcourse Onns itself who also is to be writing the journal.

The plot of the short of Meteor, sometime in 1956 a round meteor like object had landed near the Fontain household. It was thought to be a meteor until there was sizzling heard when Mr. Fontain had put his ear closely to the object, after putting his ear to the, as thought, ‘meteor’ he had fainted. But later on, from the Onns journal it mentiones that small aliens had been sent over to find new land to live in on this world, which would be able to hold thousands of their species. In the end of the story, all the species die.

The author tells the story from two different perspectives. One is from Onns' point of view , he tells this from as the first person. The other is told in the 3rd person and from the humans perspective of this whole situation. In Onns' journal it is told in a very emotive way, and Onns tells it in a very official and formal language. The other part of the story is told in simple language but quite dramatic.

The themes revolves around mankind and its destructive ways. The aliens that would have landed on earth reflect on how humans have to behave with everyone around them. The aliens’ helpful nature condtradics with the selfish and violent nature of the earthlings.

The conclusion of the story is basically, the two different worlds ended up bumping into each other but since the humans are much bigger than the aliens, the humans killed the aliens with not even thinking about their feelings. I really enjoyed reading the Meteor, I found it quite interesting to know about how the two different worlds came together in the end of the story.

  17. Meteor - Part 1
Meteor is a short story written by John Wyndham in 1956. It is about aliens coming to earth in search of a new home, Forta, because theirs is dying. It is a Sci-Fi type story. It switches from the story of the people from Forta to Mr. Fountain and his family’s view.

It is set when the story was written, in 1956. We do not know what area of the world but it seems to be somewhere in America. It also seems to be on some kind of farm. Part of it is told is the diary of Onns, where it tells us about Onns’ experiences.

There are a few main characters in this story. The first is Onns, who writes his journal which tells us about his experiences. He seems to be a very insightful and smart person. When they land on earth, their leader is Sunss. Sunss was a very brave person and gets himself killed when he kills the beast, a cat. The next leader is Iss. He leads them to shelter beneath the floor boards. He leads an expedition and gets out of the barn or shed. On the way back, he and a few others gets killed. The leader after Iss is Muin. He leads them out of the shed a second time. The human characters are Graham, Mr. Fountain and Sally. Mr. Fountain is Sally’s father and doesn’t think she is very nice. He seems to be a very calm person and he seems to be a bit older. Graham is Sally’s fiancé. He is a very nice person, and is obviously very patient to be getting married to Sally and we do not know his age. Sally is a very bossy person, even her father admits it. We do not know Sally’s age either.

  18. Part 2

It starts when the meteor lands outside of their house. They go to dig it up. After this it goes to Forta where their leader makes a speech to all the people who are going out to find the people of Forta a new home. Onns describes this speech and the “globes” which they would be travelling in. Then it goes back to the other part of the story where Mr. Fountain is talking to a police man. He says that they shouldn’t have dug it up as it may have been on the ‘Secrets list’ (this is a hint that this was sometime during the cold war). They find that the meteor seems to be sizzling. Graham puts his ear to it and faints. They drag him out and he wakes up straight away. Later on they find a cat which was killed. It had a hole in its neck and its fur around it was singed off and the hole went all the way through to the top of its head where the fur was singed off too. It then goes to the party of Onns who have been put in a shed. They come out and think that this place seems nothing like what they had seen through the telescope. A cat comes in and about 30 of them get killed. Then Sunss kills the cat, but gets crushed by it. They elect their new leader as Iss. Iss leads a group of them through a tunnel. They find the outside and on their way back most of them, including Iss gets killed. A new leader, Muin is elected and says that they should go through the tunnel to the outside. It goes back to the story of Graham and his family. They find out that the “meteor” was not actually a meteor at all. It was a ball of metal with different compartments inside. They look outside to see their dog had died. It had the same marks as the cat. Here we find out that the people of Forta were actually VERY small. They climb onto sally’s hand and ‘sting’ her (they use their fire rods). They think that they are just ants but Graham picks one up and finds that they are not. They are the creatures of Forta. It was a semicircular pink kind of thing. It seemed to be holding a blade of grass. Eventually they kill them with pesticides and the story ends.

It is a very sci-fi like story. It is written as if it were a movie, jumping from Graham’s story to the story of the people of Forta. It doesn’t seem very futuristic. It all fits in with the time. Of course the people of Forta are very advanced but it is still a very simple idea to it all.

The main idea is that the Earth can, and will die. It also shows that there would be lots of different things out there in space and that we could be like the people of Forta eventually. It also shows that if there are things out there that they will all be different from us and different from each other. It also showed how we are very careless people.

All in all, I liked this story. I enjoyed reading it and thought the story line and ideas were very good. It was quite a long story. I found it a shame that they killed all of the people from Forta without so much of a second thought; they had of course never seen any creatures like them. I enjoyed this story, and even wished that it could have been longer.

  19. Meteor

‘Meteor’ is a short story written by John Wyndham, in 1956. There are two parts to this story as at time it switches from the people of Earth to the people of Forta. The story is basically about aliens that are leaving their dead planet ‘Forta’ and coming to Earth to start a new life.

‘Meteor’ is set in 1956, probably when it was written as there are no hints to any advance technology that the characters use. There is no word of where it is set but it seems like it is somewhere in England, and out in the Country. We also get a brief explanation of what ‘Forta’ is like in Onns Diary Entries.

There are a few characters in the story; some of the main characters include Onns, Iss, Sunss, Muin, Mr. Fontain, Sally, and Graham Toffts. Onns is from Forta, and he seems to be very intelligent and he writes a lot of diary entries. Iss is the leader of Onns group where he is a brave leader but gets killed while on a Scouting mission, Sunss is another brave person who gets killed while saving his people from a cat, Muin is the final leader and decides to take his people out of the shed unfortunately they all get killed. Mr. Fontain is a very calm person and is also Sally’s Father, Graham Toffts is Sally’s fiancé, he seems to be a very nice person and he also knows quite a bit about bombs from his wartimes, he is also very patient as he is waiting to marry Sally. Sally is quite bossy, as even her father admits that she is bossy, we do not know Sally’s age, but she seems to be very nice.

    Part 1

  20. The Story starts off with Graham Toffts putting his drink down because of a loud crash that seemed to be very close to the house. Graham along with Sally and Mr. Fontain all go to see what had produced such a crash and found out that it was a meteor; they then proceeded to dig it up. It then switches to Onns’ Diary where he is talking about the situation in ‘Forta’ and how everyone is going to be set off on these ‘Globes’ that look like giant mountains, after the diary extract the police seemed to have arrived to take a look at this so called ‘Meteor’ and they mention that it shouldn’t have been dug up because they thought that it might have been something on the ‘Secret List.’ Graham takes the police to the shed where the meteor is being kept and when he goes up to the ‘Meteor’ a faint sizzling noise can be heard and Graham faints. It then goes back to Onns’ diary where he has landed on Earth and talks about what it is like inside the ‘Globe’ he then mentions that everyone inside the globe gathers in the middle so that their leader Iss can talk to them (There are around 1000 of the people from Forta in each globe) after the talk they then go outside the globe where they meet a cat and kill it. The Police are seen standing outside the shed waiting for the Wartime Officer (W.O) Gentleman, but they find a dead cat with two identical holes on the top and bottom of the cats head, Onns finds himself in the shed but he does not know that and they get attacked by another cat which Sunss kills but gets killed because it falls on top of him. Iss then takes a search party to see what lies beyond the shed and only two of his members come back to say that the rest had all been killed by what seem to be rats or mice. A new leader is then appointed, Muin takes the people out of the shed where they meet Sally’s dog and kill her. Sally the hears her dog whimper and goes out to see her and when she gets to the dog, the people of Forta attack Sally with their ‘Fire Rods’ Graham then picks up one of the creatures and studies it, it is a semi-circular body with four legs, eyes in its shell and its Fire Rod in its hand. Graham goes into the house to get some Pesticide and sprays the creatures and that leads to all of their deaths.

‘Meteor’ is a Sci-fi story; the story is written like it jumps from one story to another, Graham’s part of the story and then Onns. The story does not give off a Futuristic feel, only when it jumps to the People of Forta that is when the whole future idea lies.

The story’s main idea is that Earth like all other planets will eventually die, and that artificial life could be out there but has not reached Earth yet, like the people of Forta. It also has an idea that the people of earth do not seem to consider that there is other life out there as when the people of Forta came, Graham’s first idea was to kill them. “He pumped a cloud of insecticide over them and watched while they slowed, waved feeble legs, and then lay still. He sprayed the locality a little more, to make sure.”

I liked this story very much as it was a confusing story to follow but in the end it was enjoyable, I also liked how it jumped from one story to another as that is something I haven’t read all too often.

  21. Essay on ‘Meteor’
The short story ‘Meteor’ was written by John Wyndham and his full name is: John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris who started writing short stories in 1925. The ‘Meteor’ is one of the collections that he wrote. John Wyndham was born in 1903 and died in 1969.
The story begins in a house in Britain. The house has a large garden and big rooms. The man Onn’s ho write in his diary about where he lives it is called ‘Forta’ He dont say where exactly is but neither it is a planet, a moon or an asteroid.
The characters are Mr Fontain who is the father of Sally and then there is Sally a spoilt girl who have a dog Mitty and her fiancé Graham. Graham is very quit but he knows much. Then you have the characters on Forta that is off course Onn’s who is writing about their trip to the Globe, then you have the leader of them Sunss who dies when they are on the Globe, and then is there Iss who took charge when Sunss died.
The action what happens in the story is that there lands a Meteor and the people don’t know what it is and there inside of the meteor are the aliens like Onn’s. Onn’s is telling about why they went away from Forta and why they went to the Globe when they are finally arrived they don’t know if they are on the Globe. The people are searching what is on the meteor and the people are asking the War Office if they want to search if there is anything what is dangerous but then they take a cat and the cat has a hole in his head and under his chin and his fur is burnt. The aliens also killed rats and cats because they had to defend himself and they didn’t know what they were. And also the dog of Sally who is Mitty. Sunss died when he shoot the cat and the cat fell on him. Than one of the people cats hurt because of the weapon of the aliens and also Graham fells something and when they looked at the aliens and then he sprayed an insecticide on them and they all died.
The story is a little confusing because it has two different sides of the story first it begins with humans in a house who found something in the garden, and then it goes to and alien who is Onn’s who wrote everything in his diary. But when it is about the cat first the humans found the cat and are looking at it and then it goes back to the aliens their point of view about how the cat killed. And when we are reading about the aliens they are really clever and they are so small but still, and then you see how the humans just don’t know any of how smart they are and just killed it with a spray! So it ends not really nice for the aliens.
This story was quitte interesting because now you see how, if there are any aliens (which I don’t believe) how they are thinking and they are really smart but they are small. And the story behind the story (You get it?) is like that the aliens are saying that we have to be very nice with the earth and they teach that we have to be not harsh to the earth! I liked the story it is just different than what I normally read but it was interesting and nice :D.

  22. Meteor

The short story called Meteor is a short story which was written by John Wyndham (a very famous English writer) in 1956. John Wyndham was born on the 10th of July in 1903 and lived till the 11th of March in 1969. He was a science – fiction writer, and the story Meteor is one those stories.

The setting in the short story Meteor for the people on Earth is in Britain, in the year 1956. In some parts of the story, it is also set in an unknown planet by the humans known as Forta, but we do not find out the year in this planet, what the people are like or any other information about it.

The characters of the story are both from the planet Forta and Earth. The main characters from earth are Graham Toffts, who is a part of the War Officers. There is Sally, who seems as though she is very impatient and a rather bossy person. There is also her father Mr. Fontain, who seems like a very well – educated and well – off man by the descriptions of him in the story. The main characters who come from Forta are Inns, Cottafts, and Onn who writes about in his journal.

The plot is basically that a mysterious metal sphere, or a meteor, lands on Earth in Britain just outside of Mr. Fontain’s house. Graham Toffts calls in War Officers and some scientists to try certifying whether it actually is a meteor or not. In Forta, something had been going wrong with their planet, so they were struggling to survive, and according to ‘Onn’s Journal’, they wanted to retreat to a new planet. So they set 30 huge globes that can hold over 1000 of their kind to find a new planet to settle in. Back in Earth, strange things are happening when it involves the metallic sphere that crashed near Mr. Fontain’s house, such as something being shot through his cat’s skull perfectly that if you put the string through his chin, it would come straight out from the top of its skull. At the end of the story on Earth, they were in the garden when these tiny creatures started to attack Sally. They were supposedly smaller than ants. Mr. Fontain brought out bug – spray and had to kill them all. The story had ended after this unusual event.

The style of this short story is a very descriptive one in some events / scenes. Also, the author is telling the story in two different perspectives, which are on Earth and from Onn’s Journal. Because of this, the style is still rather unusual as it keeps switching from the narrator’s point of view in the story and on to Onn’s Journal to get a couple of hints of what is actually happening in the story.

I think the ideas of the story are good the way the story doesn’t tell you exactly what is going on, but just hints out a few things so you are able to build the tension / imagination of the story of what is actually going on. It is very unpredictable in some cases, which makes you want to find out more of what is happening.

I thought that the short story Meteor was a very interesting one and I enjoyed reading it very much. The way the narrator describes some of the things and events is great. I really liked the way it kept me wondering of what would have happened in the next scene, or when it was going to happen / occur. It also amused me in some parts. Take the little insects that attacked Sally as an example; they just came randomly out of nowhere, so her father just brought out the bug spray to kill them all. Overall, I thought it was a great story which brought some tension in a few parts. I wouldn’t mind reading more of John Wyndham’s stories if I have the chance to, or if I need to write another Essay.

  23. The story was written by John Wyndham in 1956. It is a short story whose genre is Science-Fiction, or Sci-Fi. It involves a meteor coming down to earth, but then later revealed to not be an actual meteor.

The story is mainly set on Mr. Fontain’s land, which is probably based in England somewhere. But the perspective of the narrator often switches when you read an extract of Onn’s diary, then it is shortly set in Forta, but it does not give any details saying where Forta is placed, and whether it is a planet or moon, etc. The Meteor/space-ship lands in Mr. Fontain’s land, so most of the action and such is placed there, although the actual Meteor/Space-ship could be qualified as a setting. The meteor is mentioned as a “Globe” in Onn’s journal and carries around a thousand of the aliens such as Onns. The Globe seems very large to them, so when they crashed in the yard shed it seemed like it was a whole new world for them to explore. But the yard shed was dark, seeing as it was closed off, and the aliens automatically thought that earth was a dark and gloomy place.

The characters in the story include Mr. Fontain, Graham Toffts, Sally, and the Inspector Guy, are the main people on Earth. Onn is the main alien, whose thoughts and such are written in the extracts of his journal (which we can view), but he mentions Cotafts and Inns, other fellow aliens. Mr. Fontain seems to be the father of Sally, and Graham is the fiancé. Sally’s father, Mr. Fontain, is the first to see the meteor, seeing a ‘dim flash in the field beyond the orchard.’

    PART UNO/1 ^-^

    ReplyDelete
  24. In the beginning there is a small shake or vibration in the ground (like an earthquake), you could call it, when Sally and Graham were just about to sit down for dinner when Mr. Fontain (Sally’s father) suddenly opens the door saying ‘Did you hear that? A small meteor, I fancy. I thought I saw a dim flash in the field beyond the orchard.’ Which then brings them outside to go and find the meteor, even after Sally had said that she doesn’t want to keep her dinner waiting for it would go cold, so they searched AFTER they ate. After finding the ‘meteor’ they decide to wait until the next day to call the authorities. Then, the story is told in Onn’s point of view. Well, from an extract from Onns’ journal. It explains the troubles that they will face while searching for another planet because Forta, their home, is dying and cannot sustain them anymore. So they all pile into Glob ships that are sending them to different places around the Universe, as a thousand or so in each globe search for a new planet or place to live. Onns and the rest of the aliens land in the yard shed of Mr. Fontain, on his land. Then it is told in the third person again, with the authorities investigating the meteor, seeing whether it is safe or not. Of course, later when the cat goes too far near it, it is killed by the army of little aliens, having being shot by their weapons. Sunns is the murderer of the little cat, but also dying in the process. Then another alien takes the role of the leader, and they decide that they must survive. But they fail at that task, because later the humans spray them with bug spray and they suffocate.

The story switches in between the humans point of view, to an extract from Onn’s journal. So you get both sides of the story, basically. The story is fairly descriptive on the aliens side, and has more dialogue on the humans side. But in some places there could’ve have been more description, seeing as some events were passed over quickly. Also, since the Alien’s point of view is based on an extract from a journal, it’s in first person and based on Onn’s perspective on things. While the humans side of the story is in third person, which gives a different look on the events throughout the story.

I thought that the idea of having both perspectives in the story was very smart, as it added –- or rather, “filled in the gaps” in the story. Also having the alien’s point of view in the story made it seem more realistic, in a way. It made it seem like something such as that could happen, and that our minds need to be more open to even the smallest of things. And in this case, those aliens were the small things.

I really enjoyed this story. The way it was written and how he successfully got the alien’s point of view across made the story very enjoyable. In some places there might’ve been too little detail, but otherwise, overall, it is a very great story and it opens your mind to what could be out there. The ending was also unexpected, which made it great.

    Meteor Commentary

Meteor is a short story written by John Wyndham in 1956. It is a science fiction story. The story is about a “meteor” that came to earth but in reality it is not a meteor but a spacecraft from outer space. People find this “meteor” and the police get involved meanwhile, inside the “meteor” there are little aliens that have come to earth to find a new planet because their own is dying.
The story takes place on earth on a farm. It is dark at night and there are rain drops on the window pane. The meteor landed in the field of a farm and was carried by the owners of the farm to a shed. It was a normal night when the family of the farm was preparing for dinner when it landed in the field.

There are a few main characters in the story Onns he is an alien and parts of the story are told from his point of view, he is small and his body is a perfect hemisphere he is pink and he is insect like. Mr. Fontain is the person that lives on the farm along with his daughter Sally and her husband Graham. They are the first people to find the meteor. The Police Inspector the first to arrive from the police and the Sergeant the person who finds the cat dead.

Onns species take off from their plant his Globe is sent to earth to find a new place to live because his planet is dying. His Globe lands on the field of Mr. Fontain it is then found by Mr. Fontain, Sally and Graham. They move the Globe to a shed and the police are called at first the Inspector hears sizzling coming from the globe and when he move closer to inspect he faints. Onns and his group go out from the dome and a confronted by a cat they kill it and continue exploring their surroundings the party split and some of them are killed by rats. Meanwhile the cat is found dead with a hoe going straight through its head. The globe is then taking for examining and when cut in half the police see that is not a weapon or a meteor. Onns and the rest of his species that came to earth with him make it outside the shed there they find the family dog named Mitty and kill it. Sally runs out and is devastated to see the dog dead she is then stung by little insects and Graham quickly goes back inside the house to get bug spray and kills the little insects that are in fact Onns and he species.

The style of the story is very interesting because it is told from two points of view Onns’s and the humans’ point of view. It is a science fiction story and the. The writer does not describe much of the setting the main focus is the story it’s self and a lot of detail is put in from Onns point of view.

I think there is a hidden message in this
story and that is everything is not what it seems to be and insects might actually be alien from another planet and might be really smart.

In my opinion I really enjoyed the story it was fun and pleasing to read. However if I had to choose between the ‘Signalman’ and this story I would choose the ‘Signalman’ because I do not read much science fiction stories.

  26. This science-fiction tale was written by John Wyndham in 1956. It is set around the 2 planets of Forta and Earth. It has 2 sides, one of the diary entries of the Aliens, the other of what is happening on the house in Britain.

There are many characters on the Alien side however, we do not know many of their names. There is the leader, Cottafts and Onn who writes the diary entries about the trip from Forta to Earth. Sunns was in charge of the journey originally, however, after being killed he was replaced by Iss. The human characters are Mr Fontain the head of the household. He has a spoilt daughter named Sally. She has a Dog called Tofts and a Fiancé named Graham.

The story mainly describes this large race of Aliens arriving in their globes on Earth which are like meteors. They are only around 2ft in size meaning that , these aliens are microscopically small. Their aim is to revive their dying species. Once disembarking, they look around this home of which an English family live. They are attacked by a cat which they think is a huge monster. Unfortunately, in the end, these Aliens are killed by the humans which links the two halves of the story together.
At first, I believe that the story is set out very oddly as it seems to keep jumping from one half to another. However, in the end it seems fitting to link them both together as we get the perspective of both the humans and aliens.

The main Sci-Fi theme of the story is very clear to us. However, I believe that there is also a theme of supernatural species because of the aliens. This might indicate that John Wyndham believed that there are aliens on another planet. The idea of having 2 different perspectives of what was happening was also very effective

I enjoyed some of the story but thought that it was a bit too confusing at times.

  27. Meteor a short story wrote by John Wyndham (1956). The story is a science-fiction genre. It starts with a meteor landing on Earth but it turns out not to be all that it seem.

The story is split into two with parts of the story taking place on earth around the 1950’s and the other is set on the planet Forta there is a time difference as what takes place on earth is in present time but what takes place on Forta is recorded in Onns Journal and takes place in the past.

The characters are split into two, with one being the humans and the other aliens. The human characters are Graham Toffts, Sally, Mr. Fontain and a police officer who comes to inspect the meteor. Graham Toffts is Sallys fiancé and Mr. Fontain is Sally’s farther. The aliens are Onns who is writing the journal Cottafts who is the ruler of Forta. Inns the leader of the aliens that land on earth.

The story starts with a Meteor crashing in the field of Mr. Fontain he orders it to be dug up by his estate workers, they dig it up and place it in an outhouse. Then the story flips to Onns Journal and Cottafts is setting them out on a mission to spread their knowledge and science and start there species on a different planet in a better environmental situation than their own planet. But when they land on earth it does not go to plan they leave the globe in the outhouse. The globe is the meteor that crashed in the field. When the aliens leave the globe they get attack by a cat but because the aliens are miniature compared to the humans they get killed simply by being stood on the aliens kill the cat with a fire rod and run off. the humans find the aliens and thinking they are some aggressive insect the kill the aliens with a can of bug spray.

The story is wrote from two different perspectives. One is from Onns' point of view of his and his peoples dangerous adventure this is told in the first person in a very heroic and noble way describing how the fought and how they followed their leader in attempts to do good on the behalf of Forta. The other is told in the third person and from the humans point of view of the whole situation.

The theme of the short story is different from the two different views Onns point of view is almost a horror/adventure as they combat threw a dangerous planet trying to survive. The out come of the story is interesting and shows that however important we think we are we can seem insignificant in the eyes of others. Onns people are very similar to humans acting aggressive and violent when they think they are in danger. finally it has a weird surrealistic twist in the end when the mighty people of Forta and all there knowledge gets destroyed by a can of bug spray.

It is interesting how the story is wrote from the different points of view and it compelles the reader to keep on reading to find out what happens at the end it is a good technique and i enjoyed reading the small story greatly.
